Anyone local to Penrith that could recommend a restaurant for dining.  Would love somewhere that knows how to open a bottle of champange, this is our first meal with our daughter and her fiance since they got engaged last week. :-)

Sorry, not that far from Penrith but not got a clue where to suggest to eat :-(  Hope you find somewhere nice.

My favourite place in the world to eat is: http://www.millyardcafe.co.uk/index.htm
It's called a cafe does does proper evening meals too. Very personal service. I couldn't recommend it enough! (Except I wouldn't want it to become too popular =p)

My FIL lives in Penrith, whenever we visit we normally go to an Indian resturant, I'll give him a text see if he can recommend somewhere special x

Thanks everyone for your replies.  Though our plans were to meet in Penrith and have a meal unfortuneatly I took the wrong exit from a roundabout and ended up going south on the M6 :-)  So we drove on to Kendal and found a very nice chinese restaurant where the guys had a blast practising with there chopsticks.

Will certainly keep a note of the recommended places as Penrith is quite a handy half way meeting place for us.

Not quite in the class of "lovely restaurant" but if your are looking for somewhere at the north end of the M6 for a meet up point, then the motorways services a little south of Penrith are worth a visit - they are consistently listed at No. 1 in polls of motorways service areas.  It is privately owned, not Moto or one of the others, has a great gift shop and farm shop on site, and both the restaurant food and the ready made sandwiches are great, way above the standard of the usual motorway stuff, but at about the same price.
