Hi, what is the best food to feed Dogue de bordeaux's as I know they are prone to bloat. Is it recommend to feed tripe with a mixer, tripe only or dry only.I have bullmastiffs and feed them tripe and complete together without a problem, but I am not an expert on the bordeaux.thanks.
hi there, from my experience of owning a ddb, ive found he does alright on arden grange dry with tripe/lamb mince added-in fact most of his diet is raw with just some dry to bulk it out.when we were showing him,as he was a very large boned young dog, we asked several exhibitors what to feed him to put some meat on him and the general consensus was to add tripe which we did and have done since.hope this helps, roy.
thanks,, yes thats pretty much how I feed my bullmastiffs. Its just that someone took on an unwanted bordeaux pup and I wanted to make sure before I advised them.many thanks
Id just feed the same as the bullmastiffs as you know bullmastiffs are also prone to bloat and if the diet you have been using has worked on your dogs id just stick to that.
Higher priced (generally) quality kibble for large breeds. The kibble is crunched up and when mixes with water in the stomach becomes mush. Doesn't swell, like it would do a cheaper quality biscuit just vacuumed up by the dog. JWB (what i feed my lot and its the best i have found in the years i have owned the breed), royal canin, purina large breed robust, arden grange etc. What will save a dogs life is vigilance and to know when your dogs not right and the first symptoms of bloat. This is a more valuable piece of info to be passed on.
