I am looking for a person who breeds poodles crossed with Jack Russells. These dogs are specifically bred for their coat and temperament. I believe they live in the Dundee area. Please can anyone help. c.hillock@amserve.net

I am so tempted to say - I hope it's not a JR's temperament they're bred for. But I'm scared someone will hit me :D (or bite my ankles

)
Seriously though, sounds like a somewhat bizarre mix.

The main thing about cross breeds is you don't know what you are going to get so they can't be bred for temprement, coat, size, colour, longevety, trainability or anything else. If you want a good idea about how a puppy will turn out buy a pure bred puppy that has the sort of charateristics you want, checking that the pups sire & dam have the charateristics as well, even then there is nothing definate but you will have more chance. Posted in the hope your question is serious and not just another wind up. Ja:)kie

Lordy, both breeds are extremely smart, and JRTs are very high energy. Poodles aren't that far behind them either. I just keep imagining a dog being able to leap buildings in a single bound :rolleyes: How does one keep up with something like that or even keep it confined to the yard?
I like both breeds, but no way would I ever think to cross them together on purpose. jmho.

I've got a JRT/PBGV and he has a very high hunting instinct, goes deaf when on a scent and can change temperament from the laid back, happy go lucky hound to sharp alert JRT in seconds. He is a lovely friendly dog and such a character but has been such hard work and virtually untrainable to any high degree. Ingrid

I knew a litter of Poodle x Beagles a couple of years ago - various people took them in the hope of acheiving agility dogs, dont think it worked out - most of them seemed to have a little too much "Beagle-Brain" to be trainable, and all exhibited a high degree of selective deafness when an interesting scent appeared!

As a child I grew up with a poodle x lakeland terrier - he was the nastiest piece of work I have ever met!!!! I still bear the scars 20 years later!

Hi Ingrid,
You made me curious now. What exactly does your dog looks like? Smooth or wirey? Stocky or leggy? How old is he? I'd imagine he'd be a handful when he gets going :)
Smart dogs :rolleyes: They'll be the death of us all ;)

Hi Sara, Merlin looks like the little git he is, scruffy haired, overgrown ears, hound tail, stocky, quite short legged, tri coloured with spots, 3 yo. He is teflon dog though, always looks clean, dirt doesn't stick. if you want a picture send me an e-mail and i'll forward one to you. Ingrid
