- By chelzeagirl [gb] Date 14.04.10 10:27 UTC
Hello Cd'ers
I am in need of some advice please my friend just went in for a hysterectomy yesterday.

I am going to see her today and want advice on what i could take her by way of food or anything else that may be useful to her,

I know it probable sounds an odd question but

I am not a hospital person cant stand them , myself id have to be on deaths door before id stay in one,

I was going to take her a Mc Donald's meal , as i know she'd like this, but then i worry about the effects on her bowel movement , so don't think junk foods such a good idea,

so please what else can i take her to eat ,

I don't know anything about hysterectomy so not even sure how shes going to feel,

any advice please would be much appreciated, thanks x

Not sure on the food side of things, but you could take her some magazines, something to nibble on (fruit, sweets, crisps) and drinks (the kind that don't need refrigerated and can be kept until she wants them).

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Would you be allowed to take food in, incase of carrying infection??

My mum brings me a Mc D's every time I stay in! I'm sure she would be greatful of the gesture

Money for a television card was the thing for me... Didn't have hysterectomy but had spinal surgery. Loads of people bought me magazines, but I just couldn't concentrate enough to read them what with pain and painkillers. I wasn't hungry so I don't know about food, and couldn't eat because I was being sick all the time. Can't have flowers on surgical wards either, which annoyed me because they really cheered me up.

The most valuable thing for me was a telly magazine (with the list of programmes in) and television card, even though I don't actually watch much telly at home. Or maybe something like an MP3 Player with a load of tunes on she can listen to. I needed to at night as it was too quiet on the ward to sleep.

i know this sould weird but when I was recovering I coud not concentrate on much and my very good friend got me some wool and a pattern for a short sleeved silky cardigan, I have it still. Does she sow or anything? give her something to do! even paint but numbers was great. I got so bored I could scream and Oprah ect was mind numbing.

Having spent a lot of time laid up last year after 4 surgeries with general anaesthetics, I can suggest anything that doesn't need too much concentration buts stops boredom.
Magazines were great, normally I dont get them, but loved going throught things like  'take a break' .
It is kind of you and she will really appreciate it.

Karen :)

When I had a Hysterectomy, one of my friends gave me really expensive shower gel, it was one of the most welcomed pressies I had and such a lovely thought!

When i was in hospital, a very good friend bought me a small card making set, really passed the time of day....magazines, books are all good.
I am not sure i would have felt like McDonald's straight after, but everyone's different :) I hope your friend feels better soon.

I was out of hospital after 3 days.  On the second day I was walking around the ward sorting out everyones' food menus so didn't really have time to get bored, but something nice and smelly would have been appreciated.l

I had nurses too but I felt fine and didn't want to sit in bed!  Much happier to be up and keep busy. :)

Hmm.. think you might have needed extra hospital care if you had tried to sort mine out ;-)
