Hi everyone
am back from my walking holiday on the Isle of Skye ( am now about a foot shorter :D)

Have just picked Ruby up from her kennels. This is the first time that i have ever used kennels. When we picked her up she looked lovely and healthy, the lady said she had thrived she seemed happy.
I have no qualms that she wasnt looked after or cared for during her stay, but one question i have is that she stank
She smelt really horrible and had a greasy kind of feel to her coat and her collar was filthy.
All her bedding and toys that we took with her smelt bad too. Is this normal? Is there a kind of kennel smell the dogs pick up while they are boarding? Like I said she was well looked after and hadnt dropped any weight i just wondered why she was so smelly!!

Hello Ali- hope you had a nice holiday:) As for the smelly bit- I don't know but when I got back from Cornwall at the weekend I thought Kass stunk too- and she wasn't in bording kennels she was with my parents! Could it just be that because you've been away and not seen her or should that be smelt her- she smells worse or seems to? I do know what you mean though- Kass has been in the bath since I came home and the vet bedding washing etc

Hi 2 chipolatas, if you are shorter, then you must be lighter too! :D Missed your posts while you were away :( Love from 2 slightly heavier bits of string :D :d

The dogs usually pick up the smell of the disinfectant that the kennels are swilled with :(
Even when it's hosed off it seems to get onto their feet and then tramped into their bedding etc...as they are usually put back in when it's still damp. They can also walk in their urine etc... and then walk on their bedding making it stink.
The greasy feel could be just that Ruby hasn't been groomed while you have been away.
I fetch my dogs back from kennels with the car windows open and it's straight into the bath for them.

I've boarded my girls at good kennels over the years. Everytime they smelled of disinfectant and other dogs no matter how immaculate the place has been. When we were boarding them right after the movers had taken our furniture away, I arranged to have them bathed an hour before we were due to pick them up. Otherwise, it would have been an unpleasant 2 1/2 day car ride to the East Coast
toodles

Hello! i think Kash was on the right lines we just seem to get used to the smell of dogs then when we go away it is more noticeable upon our return. I work with dogs and when other people get in the van for a lift at work they are gagging at the smell and i'm thinking whats up with you! Thinking back i used to be the same.
