I am beginning to get a bit worried about little pom/chi. She has been licking and cleaning her front paws frequently over the past few weeks. I have checked her all over and no sign of anything un toward.
I dont think it is boredom as she has a pretty full life ,more a habit ?. The fur on her paws has become a bit fluffy from all the saliva
Sometimes she will also  extend the cleaning to include wiping a paw over her face. She doesnt appear to do wake up from sleep to do this so guess its not itching much if at all. Also no itching anywhere else. Anal glands have been done recently as aprecaution. She is raw fed
Ideas would be appreciated

Possibly an irritant in the home - new cleaning product on the floors perhaps?

Or is there any possibility of a back/joint issue (so referred pain to her feet or wrists)?  Whenever Soli's back or hips are playing up, she immediately starts to obsessively lick her wrists to the point of raw and bleeding - one visit from her chiropractor and it stops straight away.  Even the chiropractor didn't think it could be that until last time she came - when she saw the improvement from the first visit to the checkup she was amazed!

Thanks for the ideas I am still puzzled but am wondering if its more a habit like biting your nails. Have spent quite alot of time with her this afternoon doing a bit of training and she isn't bothered by her feet at all far too interested in what we are doing and what comes next ,treats  she is very food motivated . It seems to be more when she is just sitting resting

I know quite a few pom's who clean their face in this matter, bit like a cat does.  Is it frequent or not?

furriefriends, while I wouldn't be daft enough to discount any medical problems, I do think this is sometimes a bit of a habit.  I've had a Toy Poodle that was over fastidious, and I presently have a Chihuahua Long Coat girl, that has actually stained the fur on her feet from licking.

I've ruled out mites, and she isn't unwell in herself.  But she does get quite absorbed in her task when she's feet cleaning!  So you may well have something when you mention habit.

Its most days but it almost seems to be a bit like I would be settling down to watch a bit of tv and have a coffee lol she settles down at odd times during the day and licks her front paws and then cleans her face a bit like a cat.  Its the paw licking that is most regular and the fact that I am noticing it and the fur is now fluffy. Is not frantic or frequent she doesnt stop playing or wake up to do it. Mabe its like Jeansw poodle over fastidious and being a cross a bit of a pom thing and the chi bit too. btw she is long hair chi too.
I really cant see any signs of any mites etc redness anywhere and anal glands are clear. I may just keep a watch and when we next need to take her to vet for routine things mention it. Dont really want to have loads of tests.
Have thought about allegens but everything  is pretty natural mistral on the floor or non bio  and steam cleaner
Thanks for your thoughts
