Thought I would share my brilliant discovery with you all. For years when weaning at the start I have struggled to find something flat enough to use (before they move onto the big weaning dishes), I have tried plates etc but in a brainwave after being given loads at crufts I now use a frisbee. It is shallow enough for wobbly pups to actually eat from. Hope others find this helpful.

1001 uses for a Frisbee
I use them as dog bowl lids when I'm defrosting meat or if I have to put uneaten food in the fridge. They fit an 8" stainless bowl perfectly :)
...and luckily my son collected a few free ones at Crufts this year too. We probably have matching ones!
Brilliant, your'e a genius!!!!

Ha ha.. brilliant!
I've got 4 weeks old pups atm being weaned.. not that interested in the food though! Mums always best. :)
But I've been looking aroung for something like that. Excellent idea!

LOL I've used them too!
Brilliant idea..will have to get some for when my 3 are ready:)

I have always used the lids off pyrex dishes, have old lids from broken ones in various sizes.

Great idea Rachael, never thought of frisbees.
I use the large plastic planter saucers (or whatever you call them :-) )from garden centres ;-) Shallow enough and cheap :-)

another great idea Lindylou, i usually use the large shallow weaning dishes but sometimes the sides are a little too high.
Thanx for all your tips.

I've used lids for dishes too! Never thought of frisbees, nice idea!

I always wean mine individually from a saucer, and then feed them from individual hand-held bowls from the outset; that way I can monitor each one's intake, and they don't learn to compete for food so they're happy to have hands near their bowls.
I use cake bun tins, a mini one to start with that has 6 then a bigger 12 one. I can even out the portions properly and they dont climb into it as its too small. Once a pup has finished its serving i can take him/her away and then let slower ones eat. It works brilliantly when they are small.

Weanafeeda for us, everyone gets their fair share.
Wish I'd thought of that! I use giant flat baking trays until they are eating semi-solid and then they get individual little stainless steel bowls almost straight away - only because one of my boys was scared of stainless steel bowls when we first got him home so I feel like I should prevent that happening to the pups new owners.

I have always fed off of the big flat stainless steel pans, but never had an issue with competing for food as I always give more than they can eat, and Mum gets to finish off when everyone has had their fill, but then my average litters are not as large as average Dal ones.
Once they are on their own they get the inch stainless steel bowls the adults eat out of and that is what I give the puppy owners too.

I used stainless steel bowls from the start, I have the large flat ones about 12" across. I have 2 and they worked fab, we had 10 in the litter and none of them would compete for food either. If they finished I would top the bowl back up again till they could eat no more!

That should have said 6 inch ;)
I've used ceramic flan dishes with the curvy edge although I did break one accidentally when washing it In the sink as the are quite weighty.
