Hi I've heard that there is a Parvo virus outbreak in our local park. My question is:- can my dog get this virus even if she is up to date with all her annual vaccinations?

Any vaccination helps the body to build up antibodies to fight it doesn't make us or our dogs 100% immune from catching anything.
However it makes the effect less aggressive, and a lot milder with a quicker recovery than not having a vaccine.

So yes, there is a possibility of picking up parvo (although the effects may not be as serious) I would avoid the area if you can still.

I would ring your Vet and ask if Parvo has been confirmed in your area.  Mostly it tends to be just bloody dire rear that's assumed to be parvo.
Either way it's worth avoiding the area if you can.

It seems there's an unusually high incidence of Parvo at the moment in certain parts of the counrtry including places where it has never before been a problem. In some areas it has made the local newspapers - I have heard of vets sending out warnings to their clients in others.

I would try to get the true picture from your vets - it seems that one outbreak reported on the front page of local news in an area where I have family was very limited, and only affected a few dogs that belonged to travellers.

My pup had Parvo at 7 weeks, poorly on collection from breeder. She spent 3 days at home being treated for diarrhea before being diagnosed with Parvo, mixing with my other dogs. All my other dogs were up to date on boosters and none caught this disease. (pup survived with intensive treatment in vets )
