Hi there
I had my bitch scanned at 29 days for pregnancy and the vet couldn't find anything, the thing is she's got bigger and her nipples have got bigger. She seems to be more "clingy" than before (she's always been fairly distant apart form when she wants something)and is getting tired at the end of her walks. It was awful putting her through the scan and it took 3 of us to hold her down on her side she got fairly stressed about it and weed all over the vet, I don't really want to put her through it again as she was clearly upset (the vet and the pug!!). Are ultrasounds 100% reliable, is it worth doing it again in a couple of weeks or just taking her to have a blood test done to confirm if she's pregnat or not
scanes are as good as the person doing them lol....is your vet good at this some dont do many so sometimes dont have much clue! how long ago was she scaned ? will it stress her out more if you take her for bloods? carnt you get a mobile scanner your girl might feel better having it done at home....good luck! x

My bitch was scanned for 2/3 and has just had 7. My scanner has always been quite accurate before but not this time.lol
Hi
I have just had my bitch scanned on day 30 - 32 and the vet saw 4 maybe 5. Will have to wait and see just how accurate he is but I do know of people having been told no puppies and then their bitches going on to have a decent size litter!!
Then again I have had a bitch show all the signs of pregnancy, weight gain, swollen vulva, large pink nipples, clingy and even clear stringy discharge but no puppies....................she even had the vet fooled!!!
Good luck!

I personally think scans should be for confirmation of pregnancy, not numbers, I have my own scanner and have had lots of practise, but with my last girl I counted 5.........she had 8!

Our Vet ultrasounds scans are normally correct but he won't commit to numbers, which I am more than happy with to be honest.
He just tells you y/n as to whether they are in whelp. :)
I think too the scan is only as good as the person doing them.

I have been considering whether to get my bitch scanned or not, she'll be 4 weeks from the first mating today... she's clingy, constantly hungry and peeing lots more.
How would I find a reliable scanner in Yorkshire? I did a google search but drew a blank
Hi all - Thanks for the replies - I think I may just take her for a blood test and see if I can get the pregnancy confirmed that way.
If that comes back as a positive then maybe I will think about taking her for another scan. The vet doing it usually does heart scans so maybe she was not experienced enough - who knows!! Good luck everyone with the rest of the showing year and I hope that if your girls are having babies they are strong and happy ones x x
