Topic Dog Boards / General / Buff / beige dog trouser suit

I've posted before in case anyone's heard of this, but my buff American cocker (similar to Golden retriever colour) gets in the most awful mess when hubby takes him to the Lakes and does 10 mile fell walks with him, it takes 3 or more hours to demat and de-twig him and wash all the mud off, and of course it ruins his coat. Although I don't show him much, I do want him to look like the breed, so clipping off is not an option, and for normal walks I am perfectly able to keep him looking nice. Hubby is strongly against a trouser suit for him, and when I look at the garish red and blue ones I can understand that! But it's not fair on either me or the dog to keep having to do all that dematting. What I want is a coat, probably water resistant so it can stand up to several hours of galloping through mud and brambles, that is pretty much the same colour as the dog, ie buff / beige. I've searched the internet, and I looked everywhere at Crufts, without success. I'm now starting to think I will have to try to make one myself - so my question is whether anyone has a pattern for making a trouser suit, and whether anyone knows where I might look for an appropriate coloured fabric? Thanks!

These will make one to your specifications. They aren't the cheapest.
I tried to make mine out of shower curtain, but it was a nightmare, so I spent £60 on a ready made one. Best thing I ever bought

They only do the 'Oatmeal' colour in the summer range which is light and not waterproof. The waterproof coats come in the usual bold colours.

Try dormercrafts.co.uk I had a trouser suit made for my boy not long ago, very reasonable and the lady that makes them is lovely, I`m sure she would be able to help you.

Hi LucyDogs...has your husband thought about getting another dog that is more suited to long tramps across heather, fell and moorland? That way you keep your cocker lad tidy and he gets the companionship of a dogs that can be wiped down with a towel :)

I know this problem and I have three dogs. In my case I don't do fell walking much any more, because I'd never keep on top of the mud and twigly bits, but it's a big loss.

George is very well suited to the long tramps, never gets tired, it's just keeping him in the long coat that's awkward. But I think I've found a dark beige coat now, so hopefully that will solve the problem, thanks! :-)
