Topic Dog Boards / General / showing an in season bitch?
- By Romside [gb] Date 11.03.10 10:47 UTC
ok,so  i found a really freindly ring craft class and really enjoy going, although iv only been twice.and its not on tonight cos of crufts.

Now i wont be going back next week either cos lolas come into season and next thursday will be day 11 so clearly a no go,but i was advised to enter her into a show (by one of the ladies there)WHICH I DONE and i suprised myself cos im not normally brave lol..(roll eyes)just typical cos with her being in season im going to look a numpty in this ring on the 3rd of april. lola is  only just learning to stand.  :-(

So you see my problem how can i take her into a show without being able to go ring craft?
when can she go back?i dont want to look an idiot taking her back too early.

now also does this mean her first season being at 4 weeks before shes a year that this will be the norm for her once a year??
it'll suit me now lol knowing i enjoy this showing business lol lol

has anyone got any tips on how to help her along?im standing her on my grooming table daily encouraging her to stand bribing her with cheese, although if someone can help further id be ever so greatful.

oh also i could have gone to crufts on saturday cos a lady there offered me a lift and to spend the day with her but my two youngest have chicken pox........im sooooo tempted to go and leave them with theyre dad lol.

any pointers tips anything id be really greatful.

NO NO NO! dont take her to the show if she is in season!  Had this happen to me once, I was showing my boy and he just was not himself, along with other males at the show, not listening to me, whining, pulling, peeing, one dog fight (not my dog lucky) only to find out that someone had bought their bitch along to the show in season!!!!!!!

She thought it would be ok as she was not actually showing her, just watching,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO :) :)

I dont think that was what the OP was asking, although IMO if its a champ show and the bitch is just taken into her class and not walked around and wafted in front of the boys then I dont see a problem with it ..... but everyones opinions are different, my boy even as a seasoned stud will whine, slobber and totally misbehave over a bitch who isnt in season, she just might take his fancy !!

Back to the OP original question, just practice at home, im sure you will be fine, no one expects a dog to be perfect at its first show.

someone changed the title of my thread.
my worry was how will i carry on teaching at home because i cant go to ring craft while she is in season.

I got bit confused.com with the thread saying 'showing an in season bitch?' Note to self: must read posts twice!!! :)

well my origianal title was something like just typical tut tut i think and it got changed to something thats not even true oh well.....

more people will read this thread, now it has a specific question, and you will get more replies.. few people would have opened the ' typical tut tut' heading.. thinking it something frivlous.. as per the heading... :-)

It is so much easier for those wishing to help, to actually know what the thread is about, before trawling through it..

In reply to your question.. I am assume you are training her at home as well as ring craft, just continue to do so.. you dont need to go to rincraft to train your pup, although it does help with the socialisation aspect.. :-)

I have a bitch that has just come out of season and a show in 2 weeks too, she's been a bit naughty I think it must be hormones. Someone advised me to bath them once the season has finished too because the smell can linger for a while, I bath a few days before a show anyway but thought it'd be worth mentioning.

Good luck for your show!

Assuming she hasn't literally come in today she will have finished her season by 3rd of April especially as first seasons tend not to be so full on and long.

Anyway back to the OP's question, you can practise at home what you see them doing at Ringcraft and hope for the best come show day and treat it as practise.  If it isn't too far (re cost of fuel to get there) then nothing ventured nothing gained.

Sadly it is impossible to predict what the gaps between seasons are likely to be.  I have had them as often as 16 weeks apart to 8 months apart in the same bitch.

with some of mien the first seasons have been closer together and by around 2 years old they were longer about 6 1/2 months, but even then, usually when your planning a  litter they can be early or late with seasons.

Bitch owners waste a lot of money on show entries because of this. ;),,
