What are peoples views on this please?
if someone maintains a breed clubs' website, should they be allowed to promote their OWN kennel when they reply to breed club website queries, that have been sent via the breed club webpage, by having a signature at the bottom of their email replies that says "visit our kennel website xxx"
Have to say it seems wrong to me, but would like to know what others think.

I have that on the bottom of my emails and sometimes forget to remove it from private no doggy mails, so is that maybe what is happening.

Certainly deliberately promoting ones own kennel when conducting breed club business is not right in my book.

Its a bit like very prolific puppy producers 'volunteering' to run the puppy register for their breed club.......... shouldn't be condoned IMO.

Personally I find it wrong.
I have recently taken over my breed website and I think I'm now too aware about putting up photos news on my dog.  I put other photos up before hers, but she is joint Top Dog of the year for 2009 so she has had alot of news.  I find I'm not reporting wins that she has had that I would have done with other dogs as I don't want it to seem that I have hi-jacked the website to promote my own dog!
The point of a club/breed website is that is to promote the breed as a whole and not one persons opinions/dogs.  If I receive a query I have to email all committee members to be able to answer with the clubs views, not just my own.

Totally wrong.  They should be signing off as whoever for and on behalf of whatever club not with personal information.

I reply from various email addresses, personal, club and business and each email has there own signature.  Would never dream of signing a response to a club enquiry with anything other than club signature.

Totally wrong in my opinion, infact if I had the know how to maintain a website on behalf of a breed club I think it would make me very careful NOT to mention my dogs, post their photos etc.

I think it's totally unprofessional. I answer emails for a breed club & use a separate email address not connected in anyway to my personal email address and never, ever mention my own kennel or affix when replying to queries.

If its being deliberately done, then no, its wrong.

hmm....just as I thought. it was brought to my attention by one of my potential puppy buyers. now the next problem is how to go about tackling it?

Complaining to them seems like a reasonable idea.

Maybe just enquire if they have forgotten to remove a set signature they have on email as a gentle reminder? It could be a genuine oversight and if not they become aware that people have noticed. When busy it's often easy to overlook small changes like that
