Last year, my insurance renewal was very reasonable so I stayed with the same company however when I got a new car halfway through the year they almost doubled my monthly premiums and said it would be £104 per month!! I tried to cancel it as I was horrified at the price but obviously, as you sign up for 12 months, they wanted £600 from me to cancel the policy so I had no choice but to stay with them.

Got my renewal through a couple of days ago and it has only gone down to £93 per month - Still not a happy bunny. I called them and asked if that was the best they could do to which I got "well it has come down slightly, we can't work miracles" - SO ANGRY!!!

Anyway, I went on conused.com and I've got a better policy, the excess is half the price and my premium? £46 per month! Over the year that is a saving of £530!!!!!

I can't believe it... So pleased but so confused as to how prices can vary so much between companies. I knew I would save money but would never have dreamed I could save so much!!!

The moral of the story = ALWAYS shop around!!

Yep I always shop around.

Never just accept renewals.  If you go to your usual company online, the premium is usually less that their renewal.  It's no problem just to take our a new policy.  I saved £90 on my car insurance last year - the same cover with the same company!

I even rang the AA and asked them not to do an automatic because their renewal was more expensive than the on-line price and the girl said, "That's supposed to be for new members, but we'll match it"  - another substancial saving!

All these companies rely on people automatically renewing and just paying however much is asked!  I've retrained my friend who used to renew automatically and she reckons that she's saved over £400 so far this year on house/car insurance and AA.  That's a lot of money! :)

I had the same thing once, my renewal was terrible so I asked them why I couldn't have the price I had seen on money supermarket they were offering and they said it was for new customers only, they wouldn't match it though so I went elsewhere.
