I have heard it all now, on one site that has lots of pup farmers on, they are advertising under Golden Retrievers, outstanding rare new to the country American Double Doodles. These are a labradoodle crossed with a goldendoodle to bring out the best of both types of doodle. The American double doodles start from £850, I nearly fell off my chair. These people disgust me

A fool and his money, comes to mind!!

i really dont understand the doodle things, surely if someone wanted a non shedding dog they'd just by a normal poodle? they already come in 3 different sizes to suit everyones needs
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.02.10 19:36 UTC
That would be the intelligent thing to do, certainly.

Well on my favourite puppy farmer site they have pugs crossed with chinese crested along with a lovely picture of a poor dog with a completely bald body, brachycephalic very long haired face.

You know how many men i have re-educated this last week about the oodly doodly thing, lots. They actually now agree with me and when asked if they'd get a poodle alone and they say no and i say why... As you can see it goes on then and they come to realise actually there is no guarantee in any cross..

Maybe my mission of bad dog breeders will continue where i left of when i get back there tomorrow :-D.... Men appear to want to listen more than women

Just more money making schemes :(

We sometimes meet a lady in our local park, who has a Goldiedoodle and to be honest, her fur isn't that much shorter than a normal Goldie, but its abit wavy in places and she does moult as much as the next dog!

So if you cross a Greyhound with a Poodle you get a Speedy Doodle?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 07.02.10 20:28 UTC
No. Grey poo. Not a sign of good health in any dog!

Oh thats horrible! I have a chinese crested cross shih tzu that comes in to me for grooming-fortunately he has hair but I guess some of his litter could well be hairless.

Darn, here goes another business idea :-p

It's mainly the show trim that puts people off as they think they are airy fairy dogs.

When I say, but you don't need to trim them like that, you can just trim face and leave in a lamb trim or cowboy pant, or even leave shaggy but kept tidy they seem much happier.

I've never been a big fan of poodles until I met a Standard Poodle performing in S & R and have been a fan of the big ones ever since ;) BUT not in the show trim *shudder*.

Maybe that's who so many men shudder at owning a poodle.
I guess a Doodle might be a bit more macho? From what I have seen, it's hard to find true Unisex breeds where the chap in the family will walk it and admit to mates down the pub. Thoughts?

Exactly, in a practical hairdo they are perfectly respectable for a manly man to take out and about ;)

In a nutshell. Poor poodles and their baggage.

When questioning owners of  Poodle crosses, part of their reason for choosing one was wanting a non shedding dog without a silly look, it never occurred to them they weren't born like that or could be left more natural.

I'm not a man but I can tell you many men have had big problems with the Bull Breeds..

I like my dogs *natural*, I do understand the reason behind the trim, water etc but I prefer a dog to look natural and Poodles are second to none when it comes to IQ. The big boy who did S & R  was amazing. The bond between him and the handler was wondrous to behold and extremely rare.

Totally 100% true.  I'm not biased in any way you understand.  :-) :-)

I absolutely loved doing obedience with my Toy Poodle, just to see the look on the faces of Border Collie owners!

And, yes I have Collies too.  But Otterhound you are so, so right.  My Poodle was so excited when she knew we were going to class.  Her eyes wouldn't leave my face waiting for the next command.  She went to Rainbow Bridge last June.  Irreplaceable.

Agree with the others - I do think the show trim on poodles / SWD / Lowchens etc is daft (yes I know they claim practical reasons for water retrieval etc), but in a nice serviceable lamb trim they look fine. And they are so intelligent!
