Hi, does anyone know how much the vets charge for eye testing?. My girl has come into season 1 month early and i was going to take her to Sutton Leisure centre on Sunday to get her eyes done, now she has thrown a spanner in the works, as she will be on day 3 of her season.

for hereditary cataract £45

I wd still take her, just try to keep away from the showing area especially if she's only three days shouldn't be to interesting to other dogs. Just wd have the eyes done and then leave. Have you got her microchipped or tattoed?
No i havnt had her microchipped or tattoed, was thinking of getting her done there. I have emailed the lady who is in charge to see what she thinks about taking her along. Just didnt want to go and have all the dogs after her, last time i went to get her eyes tested, i was there for around 3 hours. Does she need to be microchipped or tattoed to get her eyes tested?.

Yes, since 1st January microchipping beforehand is required before eye-testing.

I'm having my girls done tomorrow and they are doing microchipping there. Shocked that the person setting it up didn't advise you.
i had my 2 american cockers done last week, if you go to animal health trust at newmarket they do not need to be microchipped or tattoed,

If you read
page 2 of the information regarding the eye-testing scheme it stresses that "
All dogs must be permanently identified (by microchip or tattoo) before examination and certification and the identification will be verified prior to the examination and the identification number recorded on the certificate." However this does not apply to puppies presented for litter screening.
It goes on to say that without permanent identification no certificate will be issued.
Thanks for your replys. I emailed the lady in charge and she said they do microchipping as well as eye testing, so can get her done there.

JUst realised that's where I took my two girls to today LOL! Calida had her yearly eye tst and Poppy had her gonioscopy both fine thankfully, it made my year LOL"

I was there today as well, both clear. I was really shocked though as there were some Labradors being brought in by one 'kennel' that were really bad tempered. One of them was a bitch which had to be grabbed by the muzzle by the owner and then she also stood in front of it while dogs passed by. What a great shame to have Labradors with that sort of temperament. Some of us waiting were discussing it and sadly this bitch will most probably be having its eyes tested so that she can be bred from!!! As I came out a big male (same owner) was trying to get to dogs aggressively, very sad for the breed.

Umm yes, my Calida was bit by another breed whilst in the line-up. Did the owners apologise, nope, they didn't even bother asking how she was aggghhhhh!!

Were you showing? How did you do?
>What a great shame to have Labradors with that sort of temperament.
it seems typical of labradors round here, working type and show type, real shame, if I see a labrador coming now I tend to put the dogs on lead and walk the other way !!

No, just went for the eye clinic.
Ive been seeing more and more people speaking about eye screening. would it be worth while getting my pug eyes screened? Is it a thing that you must get if you want to show them, like does it get added to his KC reg?? Hes 4 months...?
> What a great shame to have Labradors with that sort of temperament
I have been seeing this sort of untypical Labrador behaviour for the last 15 years,.
In fact one of only two dogs to have a serious go at mine at a show was a Labrador male, having a pop at two of my girls!
My mentor whose Dad used labs for work in the 30's to 50's would have shot a dog with such a temperament.
