Does anyone know whether or not Travelodge allows dogs these days?

They do but you need to declare them at the time of booking and pay £20 for the privilege

...Oh, and that's £20 PER DOG  :)

dreadful isnt it only time I book is when they have £9 rooms and that grates too!!

I book here.. sometimes you can find hotels with dogs free for £45 with breakfast inc: just dep when and where. www.priceline.co.uk

When I've booked though, although I have declared the dogs at the time of booking, they have generally said that you should pay when you arrive. I have spent an evening and a morning walking in and out openly with the dogs, and not once been asked for my money. And I'm afraid I did not volunteer to give them the money - after all, they don't provide any services for the dogs!

Therein lies the rub - they say they have to cover the cost of a deep clean.  Not in any room I've ever been in they haven't...

They certainly used to let you sneak dogs in but now the dogs are declared, and paid for, online they are a bit smarter about it.  At the time of the changeover I watched them refuse to admit a man, who had prepaid for himself, unless he paid for his 3 dogs.

Some hotels, and staff, are very cheerful about dogs; others look at you as though you are dragging a rotting carcass around

I resent paying more for the dog, than my own room cost so nowadays I'd rather pay more for my room to get the 'free' dog.

**Now that's an idea - Book a room at our hotel and we'll give you a 'free' dog as a bed warmer!!

They do charge per dog ... and not every Travelodge will allow them in - you need to check with the one you want to book in to make sure.
If of any use, Campanile chain allow dogs as standard in all their places, as do ParkInn - stayed in a lovely ParkInn recently - neither charge for your best friend staying with you.

A friend of my used to use Travelodge at lot but has stopped because of the cost of the dogs.  She was also stopped once for having 3 dogs in the room and was told that the limit was 2.

I find it qute acceptable that hotels can charge for/not charge for, allow/not allow dogs staying in hotels :) After all, the majority of people staying in hotels don't have dogs with them and hotels are businesses and set their own rules are they see fit :)

Yes they can charge, but I refuse to pay more for the dog than I did for the entire hotel room!  Especially when I have 2 dogs, £40 for them to go £19 for me!  I tended to arrive late, say 10.30pm to spend some time with my partner before I left, and up at the crack of dawn to leave for the show.  My dogs sleep in cages while I am away, so technically £40 to hoover the bit of carpet from the door to the door of the cage.  Yes I know everyones different, but I'm not paying for their mess!
I dont use travelodge any more, if I have to stay away I use B+Bs now which tend to charge an additional £5 for up to two dogs.  Extremely fair in my opinion.  I've had to back down and use a travelodge for Crufts this year, buts the only time I'd go back to them with a dog.

It does depend upon the staff that are on when you arrive. Last year I had 5 dogs in a room for 2 nights and nobody asked for any extra money, like Lucy I don't volunteer it ;)

'Days Inn' don't charge and allow dogs.

But unfortunately we all are!!

Back in the 'dark ages' we all used to use Travelodge and most of us were very respectful of the room and facilities, but many wre not and allowed their dogs to completely trash the rooms.

I was at a GSD show and some folk had 5-6 GSDs left loose while they went out for dinner ( and party) and laughed at the mess the'd made.In other cases Poodles and Lhasas bathed and groomed with all the hair left behind.
Multiply that all over the country and its easy to see why we're not so welcome.
I used a Travelodge this weekend and I'll admit, was glad that a dog show exhibitor hadn't had their dogs in the bed before I arrived. (I didn't take a dog.)

Thanks everyone, that explains why Travelodge still have rooms for Crufts. On looking around, most other motel type places don't have anything left, so..........Travelodge it is. Ta muchly.

Since they brought the £20 per dog charge in, I have never used Travelodge, and never will, on principal, unless they reduce the charge - going to stick to it - to hit them where it hurts.
We have used Days Inn or local Pub/ B & B places to stay, which have actually been cheaper, with breakfast included, and usually closer to the venues we have been going to.

Same here, even when we're travelling without the dogs. I'd rather pay a bit extra and get a better class of hotel. £40 for 2 clean well behaved dogs is disgusting, when we're quite often kept awake by other people's children who stay for free.
