I know it seems minor to some but since my boy attacked a dog when he was 4 I have lived in constant fear of him meeting strange dogs for obvious reasons.
He is nearly 11 now and has been good but for me the fear is always there. Last night I took my 3 out to a lovely dog area in town even though snoop is rather lame again at the moment i thought the change of walk area would do him good. It was turning dark and my son ran off with the 2 younger dogs I had snoop on his flexi lead as always when a dalmatian came charging for him. I never said a word and let them meet snoop was nervous but had a wagging tail and just stood stoke still this dog had second thoughts of trying to play so just stood back a foot and looked at him then his friend a collie came over head up looking full on then same again snoop let them sniff his butt. My heart was in my mouth while watching all this then the owner ran past calling the dogs then in the dark came the tiniest chi I think? and would not stop sniffing his butt I couldn't handle the small dog as I still to this day fret too much if snoop had a go just too small. the owner came running back shouting oh this one will not stop and give up I was dragging snoop away so he could not see this tiny dog latched to his bum! The owner scooped him up and said he;s only 10 months so I'm glad I didn't allow snoop to meet this one as the damage he could do to a young pup could scare him let alone if he had a go at him. I was in a state after all that lot. Very proud with him though for being friendly and saying hello in his own little way!

Ahhh, how lovely that he said 'hello' to the dogs nicely :-)

I can sort of understand how you feel. Buster doesn't get much of a chance ot interact with other dogs as they are either too small to play with him or the owners drag them away in horror :(

Last week he met an 8 month old rottie, they had great fun for 20 mins!!! Buster wasn't sure what to do, bless him, as after a quick bum sniff the other dog is usually gone, but the pup was all over him :) I did keep Bust on his long-line and have to give him a short 'time-out' a few times as he was gettting a bit too excited, but he really loved his playmate and it made me so pleased to see him have a bit of a play without squashing the other dog (my biggest fear) and didn't even object to the pup clambering all over him :)
The other owner insited the slobber allover his pup was not a problem *blush* but I think it was pretty even as the rottie was rolling on his back got covered in mud and got me plasterd in mud too!

It's funny how seemingly minor events can have such a big imact on us.
Enjoy your pride, these are the little moments that make owning a dog extra special :)
