Topic Dog Boards / General / Car crate
- By Paula [gb] Date 25.01.10 11:18 UTC
I've just scrapped my old car and now have the crate from it in the shed, taking up too much room!  I've got someone interested in it from our dog club and he's asked me what I want for it and I haven't got a clue!!!  Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated!!

It's a double cage, custom made for a Citroen Xantia Estate (I think it was made by Barjo) Lockable doors and an escape door at the back. Have had to GSDs in it, so it's quite big.  Would fit in other big car or a van.

Just to stress, I'm only asking for ideas of how much to charge (admin, if I've got this wrong, please put it in the bring and buy if you feel it's more appropriate!)

You can get new made to measure cages for around £250 so I would think £100 a fair price for a second hand one. Unfortunately you probably won't get much more than this because you can buy generic travel cages for less - it's the made to measure part that's expensive, but you lose this if you sell it to someone with a different type of car.

I think we paid about £150 for a large double made to measure Mondeo cage that we bought second hand, this included a contribution to their petrol for meeting us 1/2 way for collection.  I think it was barjo but there was no badge which is unusual. I sold it last year for much the same money. £100 ish sounds reasonable.

Go on Ebay and see if there are any on there too.

I've paid £100-150 for my secondhand car cages.

Paula, when I bought a custom Barjo car crate two years ago I paid about £450, so your buyer will be getting a real bargain! Unlike a lot of the cheaper cages, this will last forever, so £150 seems absolutely reasonable. Barjo advertise secondhand crates on the site, take a look and compare.

There are usually quite a few cages for sale on http://www.agilitynet.com in the FLEAMARKET section, you should be able to get some idea of the price of 2nd hand cages.
Just checked - there are a lot on there at the moment.

I seem to remember it was about £400 new.  I think I'll ask for about £125 or thereabouts, but I'll have a check on ebay etc before I agree on a price.

Thanks everyone

PS I only got £100 scrap value for the car lol
