Hi just in case people did not know about it but the kennel club do a breeders insruance Covers all the normal stuff as well as pregnancy c sections ect and all the pups till they are 4 weeks old (its £450 worth of treatmant per pup) The diffrence to my  other insurance is you pay 10% of the bill I have a giant breed and know that If any thing did go wrong i have her covered without taking out another mortgage If your little girl needs medical help of course we all do it without thinking at the time but vets bills that can be thousands if something does go wrong can bring extra pressure and worry Hope this might help i know i feel more confident x

How long does the policy have to be up and running before you can make a claim?  I know when I asked for a quote it was something like £63 a month , then had to pay the excess, I thought it was easier just to put money back each month and save, my litters are planned 18 months in advance so gives me plenty of time to save up, then if I don't use it I still have it in the bank for next time.

do you have a link to the insurance Mariap,
Thats a great idea Sharon saving each month,

i think it had to be a couple of weeks you were covered straight away for accientents and death
I have a giant breed and i am paying £38 thats with £7500 of cover and an excess of £75
I wish i could say i would put the money away and not touch it but i am not that  good and even if i saved for
20 months its still less than  £800 would not cover a c section or any aftercare I have read stories of bills being in the thousands
Scary stuff I am useless at trying to get links up but it is on the kennel club website You can also swap straight back after your dog has had the pups
you do not have to stay with them x

Oh im too late for that as our female is day 58 now, puppies are due very soon, but will look into it for the future.
Thank You x

Really pleased to pass it on I was very lucky that the stud dogs owner told me about it
I hope i never have to use but having the reassurance behind you not only for your bitch
but for your new pups i think is great x

yes this is good cos if you dont use the insurance you can cancel the policy and i think this is the best thing about it.i too would have used it but was too late to get any use if i needed it.im no good with saving even if it is really important id just borrow a bit here and forget to put it back.
so insurance is the way to go for me.

I have just done an on-line quote and telephoned to confirm details etc.  As from March of this year, policy has to be up and running for 12 weeks before you are covered for breeding.

I've left it too late for my girl - another thing that should be sorted in the planning of a litter stage....

That's very naughty of them I think.  When I used the KC Breeder Plan it took 5 days before it kicked in.  They also said that if I wanted a refund (ie. stop the cover) that I could get my premium back pro rata if I cancelled without a claim, which I thought was very fair.

Sadly I had to claim, my girl had a c-section, I paid £75 excess then 10% of the bill.  they paid quickly, although when my mum had to claim on her girl's illness they took forever & argued over a lot of things.  I think I was lucky as I was one of the first to use the insurance - but I will think twice about insuring my other girl with them.

It is very naughty - I have used it before and not had to claim thankfully.  Perhaps if the numbers using the scheme go right down they will review the policy.
