I have seen in our Local Paper at last Chocolate Lab Puppies price when I phoned for a bitch is £400 is this a fair price as Black and Golden tend to be around £250 to 350

There should be NO difference, they are not rare and dare I say more often than not poorer quality in some respects than blacks or yellows. Mattie will tell me off if I am wrong, but give me a black Lab any day!!

£400 - £500 would be a fair price for a wellbred labrador, from a reputable breeder who will offer you well reared puppies from health tested parents, and offer you lifetime help and advice!

Those cheap pups are probably not from breeders of this calibre, and the chocolate ones if from the same source are likely overpiced poor ones.

You should expect to find that the breeder of a good litter can show you hip and eye certificates for both parents, and be obviously involved with some aspect of dogs, such as showing, Trialing, Obedience, Agility, or working Trials.

when we got our chocolate lab, he had black brothers and sisters, there was no difference in price 'for colour or dog/bitch'

Chocolate Lab puppies at the moment are going for £400-500 but can vary depending where you go in the country. e.g London they can be going for £600-700 & Scotland £350. But any well bred, labrador puppy regardless of whether it was black/yellow/chocolate/dog/bitch should be around £400 - 500. If it was £250 it would imply to me that they may not be Kennel Club registered or the breeder did not have a clue.

When buying a puppy make sure that both parents are hip scored & eye tested & that you see the mother with the puppies & ask to see a picture of the father if you can't get to see him unless he is there as well.
