- By Julieann [gb] Date 30.08.02 11:13 UTC
How on earth she has managed this? Molly my BC has lost her collar in one of the fields around the house. We have looked everywhere it has her Petplan id on it and Battersea's disk on it with our number on. Flipping hound as lost it!

Oh no she would not take off her collar when it was swimming time oh no but ill take off her collar in the fields and wont tell her mum were it is!

Well gave me a good excuse to buy her a new one!

Who said dog's are not clever hee hee :)!

Same here Eoghania- you can't imagine what I was thinking either when I read the heading of this thread:D

Julieann maybe that's her way of saying she doesn't like it and wants a new one:) Do you need the info on the disks? Or have you got copies at home? My cat doesn't like collars and loses them frequently- so much infact I've stopped buying them for him! With regards to Kassie she has a lightweight puppy choke (clipped back on itself) so not much chance at all of losing it.

Best way is training and praise for house-training. Your Molly is only a wee baby and needs lots of love and praise. Your get there. And good advice to keep your little friend in the kitchen for now will save a lot of time and cleaning for you! Good luck.

p.s still waiting on the collar to arrive - has printed daisy's on and a lovely purple colour hee hee!! wonder how long it will take Mol to lose that one!? Flipping hounds just love em!

Hi i'm Kate and i'm a new user. I've actually just had a puppy called Molly! She is a border Collie and she is now 15 weeks old. She was 6 weeks when we had her because as her mom died when she was born, the woman who owned her was giving 6 puppies away. Molly was the nicest and the pretiest(lol)!!!!!!
Would you mind giving me a bit of advice on toilet training? Molly is terribe! We take her outside to do her business after she has woken up and after she has eaten but the thing is she wees and poos everywhere in the house at other times(lets just say there isn't 1 room in the house she hasn't christened, lol). All of us in my family are getting really annoyed and i'm sick of cleaning the mess up after her.
Thankyou Love
Kate xxxxxx

Hi Kate, Look I dont mean to sound hard, but what do you expect from a baby? I have had problems getting my pup clean, and he is five months old now. Think of it this way, would you expect a baby of that age to be clean? Praise and reward is the best way to go in my opinion. Go outside with her every time she wakes up, has eaten, or has been playing for a while. Stay with her, however long it takes, and praise her like mad and give her a little treat every time she obliges. If she makes a mistake indoors, pick her up straight away, and take her outside for a while. The penny will drop eventually, but it might be a little while yet.

Also don't allow her to have so much access to your home. the kitchen should be enough, with say the living room if you can watch her all the time.

The more accidents she has indoors the longer it will take. confining her to a small area will help, as a dog prefers not to eliminate where it spends its time most. To her going off into another room is just the same as going outside, they are both away from her sleeping place.

Hi Kate,
I agree with the others on house-training.... be patient. Also, you might consider looking up your local Border Collie club or at least find a breed specific book to consult. If you're surprised at the amount of work it takes to housetrain, you might not be anticipating other "typical" growth stages in puppy development. Also, you have a dog from a breed that tends to be "difficult" in adolescence and adulthood if not properly supervised, trained, or worked.
Consulting with others who have loads of experience might help you prepare for likely future problems. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure in these types of situations :) :) :)
good luck,
