Do Border terriers come in black?
The Kennel Club site has all the breed standards. For the Border Terrier is says
"Colour
Red, wheaten, grizzle and tan, or blue and tan."
Thanks WestCoast. Someone is advertising black puppies. I didn't think they came in black!

They can be very dark when they're born, but start to lighten within days, and by 6 weeks are clearly 'brown', maybe with a dark saddle. If the pups are still black by homing time then they're crossed with something.
That's bad advertising them as black border terriers when they are not!

Patterdales (not a KC recognised breed) are often black and have Border in them.

It's often producing puppies without knowing what they've got behind their dog.......... :( Or how their breed is born and grows - even more :( :( :(
Then they should advertise them as cross breeds and not Borders!
A bit OT but I've just seen an advert for black maltese puppies!

Got an older pup that comes to class, owner insists it is a black border, I didn't bother arguing with them just thought 'poor deluded folk, how much did they sting you'

I agree but many people producing puppies (notice that I don't call them breeders! :) ) are ignorant and don't know any different. :(

Re. the Black Maltese, they do exist, just read it in the Maltese Breed History. Resulted from about a century ago when they mixed the Maltese with Pomeranian's, then later on they mixed them with Poodles. There was a white Maltese with black ears shown in the late 1800's!

possibly they are blue and tans but the ignorant novices breeding them dont realise that....as at the early stages they certainly do look black

You learn something every day! I bet they're very rare though.
