ok,this might sound highly puerile and silly, but could you help solve an on-going argument please?Do you pronounce the word"medicine",as "medsin" or "meddysin"before we come to blows please?

The OED allows three pronunciations: "meds'n, medisin and medis'n". So we're all right. :-)

There's always the possibility that most people on here are wrong .... but in fact no, you're both right - the OED says so! Meddysin and medsin are equally acceptable. :-)

And another one ... do you say vej-tables or vejy-tables?
- By Harley Date 16.01.10 23:45 UTC
Med-i-cine and vej-tables for me and definitely tom-ah-to and poh-tay-to :-)
- By HuskyGal Date 16.01.10 23:58 UTC
^ What she said! :-)

I like pronunciation when it's regional dialect orientated "agayne, agayun, arrgen, uhgen, Aguyn, Again..."
What makes me cringe is corruptions like "Hospical' 'Arks' (for ask) and 'pacific' (specific) [shudder]
I was reading a website yesterday for Mobile phone reviews and of 100 odd reviews the vast majority all started with "I brought my phone from Carphonewarhouse/phones for U / Vodaphone etc.." quite a few were 'braught'

OMG... me too... another pet hate is when people incorrectly use bought and brought.... its not rocket science...brought to bring and bought to buy
