Topic Dog Boards / General / how to answer this email?

I had an email today saying just this:
"my aunt has two XXXXXXX (my breed insert here) and is considering breeding a litter off her (sic). Please can you give any advise"

Now my initial reacion was put it in the bin, but a quick google of the senders email turnes out she breeds a lot of springers (pet ones) albeit kc reg, but no health tests, and a natty little website!!!
Now Im wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to answer this.......clearly theres no point in waffling about the risks to aunties pet, the risk of puppies unsold, the cost of rearing them etc as this woman seems quite a self appointed authority on springer breeding LOL.....how would you tackle it, assuming you could even be bothered to :)

I would probably point out that as a specialist breed, most buyers are quite savvy and will ask for proof of health testing, and that it is quite common to have puppies well beyond the usual 8 week stage they sell the Springers at as they are not a common breed, so to make sure they have the facilities and funds to keep several xxkg puppies until sold. I'd probably leave it at that, as money/effort is the only thing that's likely to sway them.

I get them all the time. Everyone but everyone with a Cavalier seems to want to breed from them.

I really spell out, in no uncertain terms, all the pitfalls including future legislation likely to be brought in after Bateson.

Not just health testing but the whole gambit of being sued by buyers when their dog is unfit for purpose if and when the breeder cant produce sufficient proof of care in it's production.

ive had 3 enquiries about buying a puppy to breed from and my website has only been up 2 months... ive saved a word doc which took me hours to write, but puts in virtually every eventuality or prices it would be if things go smoothly, and if disaster strikes.

My answer is the same as Lois Lane!  After spending hours with replies over the years, I realise that I can do far better things with my time, and just delete them.

How about telling them that for your chosen breed demand is very slow, especially at the moment and the chances of being left with pups is high?

That is exactly the truth, it is why it is a minority breed.  many breeds are not for the average pet owner.
