Well people don't forget the £ a day challenge...still time to catch up in effect if have a £10 to put in your pot. That puts you level. It really does help and surprising how you can put a £ aside.....easily you can spend that or break it with a morning paper or packet of crisps.
£ a day means £350+ by next Christmas or keep going ......the sooner you start the quicker you get into the habit.

thats a good idea. Not getting to the shops much recently I've easily saved money & discovered I don't really need that newspaper & chocolate that I always came home with.

Forgot about that.....will give it a go  :)

I'm doing this for the first time this year.  I have one of those lovely Terramundi pots that I picked up in the sales.  Any money saved is going towards my dream holiday fund :-)

I remember reading a thread about this last year and thinking what a good idea it was, I will put £10 away today and start.
To those who did it lat year - did you manage to leave it till the end of the year, or did something 'come up' ?

Yes I've done it for a few years now...and no I've never spent it, have come up with another "idea too over the years"

This is it I round up the shopping amount ie if shopping comes to £26 I round up to £30 when in sainsburys and put the £4 on their "gift card" can add any amount to the card you carry the top up bit with you and the bit of the card you need to spend it is safe in the house. You can add up to £750 to one card......I ended up with £312 on mine this last year....by just rounding up when I had the spare change/ cash. You can add anything from a £1 upwards. You get a balance everytime you top up too, so know how much you have.
I choose Sainsburys for this because this is where I mainly shop. You don't have to spend the card all in one time and no use by date.
Then with the loyalty/nectar card from them I ended up with £160 on that too. You get nectar points on every top up too .Surprising how the £1.27 (example) add up throughout the year. I add to my card even a £1 it counts and adds up.

Look after the pennies....I only thought of this idea about June last year so did well...to have that much on the gift card. And still have some on it now....I am sure you can do this with Tesco's or Asda etc etc cards too

I've not seen/heard of the gift cards - can you just pick them up in store and use straight away or do youhave to apply for one?  That sounds like a really good idea - keen to give it a try.

No you can pick them up at the checkouts....its really really simple...pop into your local supermarket whichever it is and ask for a gift card you can add to most allow you to add an amount of a £1.

I did one years ago but thought that they stopped when nectar was introduced , will have a look. I save my nectar points and spend them around christmas its a nice little extra.

Yes, I did it last year and opened the tin on December 1st.  I had £310 in it (obviously there were some days when I forgot to put the £1 in. :) )  I haven't started it this year yet............I'll start it tomorrow!!

Thanks for the idea. I have a Terramundi that I have put the odd pound in, now I am going to start putting in a £1 a day.

I make personalised money boxes from old wine bottles so will make myself one and start saving now. would be nice to have a few extra pennies next year for the sales :)

I've started mine this morning - had a little cash so put £13 in to start me off - all I need now is to remember to do it every day!
