Please can anyone offer any useful hints / tips for me. I have seven dogs all but two are really well behaved , however my two frenchies mother and daughter are so naughty! They have just this week learned to open the washer door which is chewed on the handle now. I've sprayed it with anti chew but this isn't working , everytime I turn my back they're there at the door as if it is their mission to destroy it .
I have lost my tumble dryer to them earlier this year , as it was one where you just press the door and it opens , they easily worked out how to do this and when I was out doing the grocery shop ate the seal away! I really don't want the same thing happening to my washer . They have so many toys but they aren't as much fun obviously ,they get walked to tire them out , I really have run out of ideas. So any advice will be considered and tested.

It sounds as though you have two very clever little dogs there. Owners of clever dogs often have problems with them entertaining themselves. I notice you say you walk them to tire them out. I have found that walking a dog to tire it out does not work with clever dogs, all it does is make them fitter so they can get up to even more mischief. I think you need to find a way of occupying them mentally, by teaching them other things to do when you are there and give them something to do like a stuffed kong for when you are not there.

A lot of my dog club members have fun training their dogs to do different tricks and a favouite book is 101 Dog Tricks by a lady called Kyra Sundance. The dogs at my club cover a wide range of breeds and cross breeds so there is no reason why your frenchies cannot learn something like the tricks in this book. (We have an elkhound who is our star performer! .... thought you might like this Brainless). I have heard of few flatcoat owners having to keep a lock on the fridge doors, and a few who have to keep a watch when cooking as their dogs can open the oven doors too.

what about nina ottosson toys? bit pricey, but no way near as pricey as buying a new washer every week!

Spot on here, I agree with Polly.  The clever little tykes need mental stimulation much more than physical exercise.  It's how I keep my Border Collie calm.  The more difficult the task I set him, the more he loves it.

Thanks Polly you've got it 100% spot on they are very fit and extremely clever especially together (team work). They have kongs (don't last 2 minutes ),but you,ve given me a great idea, I'm sure a lady at my ringcraft knows about an agility club so I'm going to ask her a few questions and probably give them a shot. They are extra bright so I know they'll pick it up, but somehow I'm sure they'll still be at the washer.

With regards to access - get a carpenter/handyman to fit a door in front of the washing machine and/or tumble drier.  It may not be beautiful and will require a bit of knowhow to fit to your existing cupboard and worktop BUT it will keep them safe from teeth!
