Just though i would post to let people know there are still bugs in the gardens that are capable of making our doggies very poorly, i had to take my 6 month puppy to the vets last night as he got bitten in the garden and suffered an allergic reaction and his whole face swelled up and had difficulty breathing it was quite scarey as the emergency vet was a 30 minute drive away and i spent the whole journey terrified his airway would close, the vet thought it was probably a wasp sting and on close inspection i can see the place where it stung.
It was a very eventfull end to our xmas day but thankfully after a day snoozing he is feeling much better

:( poor lad. Glad you got him sorted and he is feeling better now. :) Scary that his face swelled up too.
I always keep Piriton in my dog medicine box just incase anything like this happens. Its useful, even just to administer whilst you are on way to the Vet. We had more wasps stings on our girls this year, than we have ever had.

yep i had the piriton handy but with him only being a little fella i decided to hold off after speaking to vet, he had one this morning as the steriod didnt get rid of all the swelling and it knocked him for six and spent the whole day asleep, but it worked a treat with the swelling.

Aww poor little fella. Must have been harrowing for him too.:( I always try and buy the non drowsy Piritons if I can.
Hopefully he will be back to norm tomorrow :)

Oh the poor little mite..
The only thing with Piriton and the like is its great to use if you know that your pet is having a reaction. If in doubt i wouldn't be passing medication through my dog if i wasn't sure.
What a Xmas day to remember and your boys first too!!
Lets hope he is back to his bouncy self very soon x

Yeah that was my problem, i couldnt in the life of me think what it was and i certanly didnt think it would be a wasp sting, so now im extra vigilante when theyre in the garden.

My boy blu is now much better but unfortunatly my 3 year old girl has now got a swelling on her nose and im at a loss to think what it could be to affect both, vet has advised piriton for her and to keep a close eye. im now worried that my 11 week old puppy will get it too.
So far its been an anxious xmas lol.

Boody do you have a real christmas tree? Just a thought, maybe the dogs are allergic to that?

yes i do and my thought was maybe it was the sap on this one as it appears to have alot on it, i do have some xmas trees in the garden which as never affected em before but i wonder if its the sap or maybe its been sprayed with something.

:) they'll keep you guessing I bet! lol
