Bailey is very very itchy at the moment, he is a thirteen and a half year old Irish Setter, and has been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. He's been on treatment  (Forthyron) for about eight months or so, but I've noticed that he has become more and more itchy as time goes by.

He has been on  Burgess Supadog sensitive formula for years, I add a spoonful of Butchers Tripe Mix, and he gets sardines twice a week and still his coat is coming out in brushfuls.

Of course I'll ask the vet about it when he next has his thyroid check, or even before then, but does anyone have any pearls of wisdom on anything further that I could try in the meantime.

Dawn I'd try evening primrose capsules.  They are one of the best things you can give a dog for skin problems.  They are a natural anti-histamine but wont interfere with the strength of the tablets he is on.

Asda's own EPO's etc are pretty good value for money. They come in 2 different strengths I think too.  You may have to give him them for a good while before you notice any difference though.

Daisy has been on EPO for a week and it has helped with her skin so much. I would certainly recommend it.

Thanks guys, any idea of a suitable dose. Bailey is 30kg, so would one a day be enough?

My Weim girls are all about 25-30kg and have 1 capsule a day each.  :)
