my bullmastiff has been limping on her back leg now for just over 2 weeks , ive been trying to rest her but my other dog likes to play with her
i can move and rotate her leg without her flinching , but it feels bubbly when i do it , duno if that makes sense!...
also if she just stands she doesnt put any weight on it , ive checked in and around her paw / pad and there is no swelling , so made me think it was a pulled muscle or something
ive taken her to the vets before about another limp she had but they just have her rimadyl and said see how she goes , then that limp went , now she has another one , i cant remember if it is on the same leg , i have given her some metacame for the past week to help her , as my other dog has it for HD but i was wondering if it will do her more harm then good?

how old is she? could it be pano?

I really wouldn't advocate using Metacam unless the vet prescribed it for your bully. Unfortunately without seeing her, it is impossible for anyone to advise what she may have done, but one thing that springs to mind is her cruciate. I hope not, but if she were mine she would certainly be being checked out by the Vet and in the meantime I would not be allowing her to play with the other dog.

i would suspect a cruciate too, if she has been having metacam too and its made no difference that is a good possibility but lameness can be a multiple of things, i have had a few cruciates and they have a particular stance that you come to recognise, they kind of toe touch instead of putting their foot flat to the floor and it will often be a very sudden lameness when it ruptures, unless there has been small tears along the way.
I have had surgery and also healed my girl without any surgery it all depends on the dog and the severity of the problem but a vet check is needed as they should be able to tell you if the knee is unstable.

yeah, too old for pano, possibly cruciate. MandyC is right metacam wouldnt make much difference. id have a vet check... cant hurt to be cautious. until then plenty of rest

ive booked an appointment for tonight for the vets
cruiciate ligament makes me worry now ...she does run on it when she wants to and lets me touch it and rotate it , but when she is just standing there she doesnt put any weight on the foot
i really hope this is nothing serious but has been limping for a few weeks now

Just wondering how your visit went?

vet examined her leg and it seemed she had pain in her hips when he pulled her leg out and backwards , it seemed painful to her
he said there was some creptious ( not sure how u spell it) in her knee which is the bubblyness i felt but no too bad , it was more her hips he was worried about
he said she is too young to have arthritis already
he gave her painkiller injection and also painkillers to take for 8 days , then i have to take her back for xrays if no better
....£50 later!!!
i hope the painkillers work
lead exercise also and short walks

hope she gets better soon. horrible when there's something wrong with them... kisses for your girl... and you too lol :-)

At 3 years old she is too young to have arthritis due to AGE, but not due to injury or joint problems.
I take it she has never had her hips xrayed, so it is possible that she has HD (for example) that is only effecting her now through artritis due to uneaven joint wear. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon, I know it's such a worry when they have a limp. Busters limp (as a puppy) turned out to be elbow displasia, but of course there are many minor things too that can cause a limp. I hope she is back to her usual self after a little controlled excersie & pain meds.
Best of luck.

thanks all
she has been on painkillers now since last week and is due for x rays 5th jan so i will keep you updated
ive got it feeling it could be HD as her hips were sore when the vet tried to extend the bad foot

Best of luck for the outcome of the xrays, I hope it's just a simple, minor injury.

Oh dear, not just a simple little thing then :( At least you know what is going on now....
Best of luck for her recovery.
My dog has had both his operated on and is currently 8 weeks post op TPLO and doing really well, limp free and raring to go! The main thing is to follow the rehab protocol to the letter and not be tempted to do anything sooner than you have been advised to. 3 months goes by pretty quickly and once you can start increasing their lead walks its soooo much easier, we're currently on 25 minutes now. Use lots of mental stimulation to tire her out but nothing that will put any strain on the leg.
George has been restricted to lead walks for what seems live forever now as before his op the vet found an infection in the other knee so this had to be cleared up with antibiotics for a month first. Roll on 4 more weeks!!!
