Which free cover insurance do your puppies leave with Kennel club or other? Pros - Cons?
- By Tanya1989 [ir] Date 20.12.09 18:37 UTC
kennel club... free insurance for 6 weeks... does not cover death of puppy during free policy... dont know if others do but KC dont
- By Brainless [gb] Date 20.12.09 18:38 UTC
The kennel club one require the persons Bank details in order to activate it, and to cancel direct debit you need the reference of the person your paying which you won't have until they have taken a payment, so I consider that sneaky, so always give the other, if the owner wishes to go with the KC one they are free to do so.

Would Petplan be better? Do you get four or six weeks free

I also won't support the Kennel Club insurance scheme.  I have always used Petplan for my pups.

WestCoast seems your not alone in  KC Insurance.

Have just looked on petplan site and can not find how i get in touch with them. Will they post me out some forms like the KC do?

This is what you need. :)

Same as Brainless and others.  If people want to go for the KC one, they have the paperwork, and it's their choice.

But I activate Petplan on the day that pup leaves home, and I have been using them for years.  More than satisfied with the service.

They always used to give you 6 weeks free cover, but it changed this year, and it's gone down to 4 weeks free cover.

I thought it used to be 6 weeks. What don't they cover for?
I am going to use petplan, but offer the KC one to new owners.

this is what i do when i have my own litters.
- By WestCoast Date 20.12.09 21:26 UTC
I don't know what it's like these days but the Kennel Club insurance didn't give as good cover and was more expensive than Petplan so I used to tell new owners not to bother.  I also used to tell them not to bother to pay to transfer ownership unless they wanted to show/breed.

When i got my puppy in July i dont think i got any insurance with her. I already use petplan for my Collie and was just going to add puppy too. When i took puppy to the vet next week tho I got free cover from the vet for Petplan. I didnt even need to phone petplan to extend the cover they phoned me. Its all business though. I too wont change the ownership. The puppy is not going for show or breeding.

You get pet plan vouchers sent out when you register the litter.  They give 6 weeks free and I know that they will pay out on death of a puppy as I lost one at 10 1/2 weeks while covered with the free insurance.  I dont know what value they pay up to but 5 years ago it was up to £800 death cover.

They haven't given 6 weeks for quite some time.  It is 4 weeks now.

Sadly back in the summer one of my pups died at the age of just 4 months old, after only being with his new owners for just under the 4 weeks, Petplan paid out everything, cost of pup and all expenses, which came to well over £3000.

Also we purchased a pup, she came with the 4 week free Petplan, then when I re-registered her over to me, they automatically gave me the free 6 week KC Insurance, didn't give them any of my bank details, they just sent out a reminder once the freebie was due to end to ask if I wanted to re-new it.

Certainly if you try to get them insured as they leave they want the owners bank details.

Thats what I thought it was only 4 weeks now but my pups just left last week and I gave them all the vouchers and registered the pup I kept, no bank details asked for and I'm covered for 6 weeks!!!

Sounds as like it may have changed then for the KC scheme as when I tried to issue KC cover notes for my last litter (born Xmas day last year) it needed the owners Bank details.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 27.12.09 10:14 UTC
when ever ive done it on line for a new pup ive had to leave my bank details and then ring up to cancel but if ive sent off kc paper they just send free insurance!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 27.12.09 10:23 UTC
Even PetPlan don't ask for bank details when you send off the covernote.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 27.12.09 10:30 UTC
That is the point Pet Plan have never done so the KC always did, which is why I never used theirs.
