I have a new black Labrador puppy, aged 10 weeks. She came home yesterday.
Unfortunately I recently lost my 10 year old black Lab, she had a splenic tumour which ruptured, luckily very quick for her but a huge shock to us as we had no idea she had anything wrong.
We also have our 5 year old Springer, Holly.
Anyway, Tikka has been amazing since she arrived. Very bold and inquisitive. Only one or two accidents in the house so far as I've been taking her out every half hour.
Had a brilliant first night with her. She has a crate and I kept treating her in it yesterday and she had a brief snooze in it. Put her to bed last night with a hot water bottle and her mums towel, said goodnight and went off to bed. She cried for about 3 minutes and then it was silent. This lasted an hour when I was just about to drop off to sleep! She started crying again at 10.45, I got up after a few minutes, took her in the garden where she did a wee then took her back to bed in silence and off I went. She then cried until 11.20 and then silent again.
I woke up a few times in the night (she didn't!) and I got up at 6.30 this morning before she made any noise and she hadn't done anything in the crate!
I'm completely amazed by it! Perhaps its first night luck but I'm so pleased with her.
My children are being great too - they are taking her out in the garden during the day and generally being very good about what I say to do/not to do. They were only tiny when we got Holly.
Holly is wondering when the new visitor is going home though - she's really not sure about her but is being well mannered about it all.
