Hi everyone, Update on Dusty the wolfie pup. She now weighs about 90ibs and is a tornado on four legs. She comes at you like a battering ram, leaps into the air (all four feet off the ground) and reaches my head height, and Im five foot eight ins. There is not a drop of malice in her, she has the most glorious temprement, it is just sheer puppy exuberance and the joy of living. I have had to be quite firm with her ( ie very stern voice, and a couple of put downs) as at this weight she could flatten somebody if she hit them full pelt. After her "talking to" she trots off quite happily, but with a little more ground contact than she had previously. Anyone any ideas how to keep her four feet on the grund a little more often? ;)

LOL Phil,
I'm so happy that Dusty is growing like a weed. 90lbs -- Wow, what a big baby. Congrats with you. Hmm, keeping her on the ground. Well, you can't assign her extra school work like a regular kid to keep her at her desk ;) I just keep imagining this prancing pony :) No suggestions except to teach her how to jump on command so you can tell her how to stay off. Sorry. I know that's not much help, since she's so "young".
good luck and keep your footing :) :)

Oh Heck Phillipa, Monty used to use me as a springboard when we first got him, came running up at full speed and bounced off me to change direction, & he weighs nothing like that, can't remember why he stopped but he doesn't do it any more. Ingrid

Hi Toodles and Ingrid, its like a mobile but solid rocket when its airborne lol. Actually toodles, I think your idea is worth a try, if I try and teach her to do it on command, then logically (!) I should be able to stop her also. I shall give it a try, fingers crossed, otherwise I shall finish up thinner ( ie squashed) than I normally am. Wouldnt change her for the world though :D

Well, if it's any help, the command words for my two are:

Jump
NOJUmp

And it actually comes out more like "chump" with emphasis on the "ch" part. Good luck. I really love the "superglue" suggestion too ;)

I tried Sarahs Superglue suggestion, and I keep saying "Chump..Chump" but nothings happening? Why? :D :D

Phillippa

You are not the only one here with a kangaroo cross! I have a Malamute who is just the same. They do grow out of it fortunately (fingers crossed). My beastie is slowly getting better. I keep taking him to classes, shopping centres, stations (to watch the trains) and local exemption shows. I was so proud of him at the last show as he actually stood properly in the ring and let the judge go over him. He nearly kept all four paws on the ground whilst doing his 'triangle'. The previous show he howled, rolled over for the judge to rub tummy and did impressions of a kangaroo round the ring. He is 11 months old, so don't worry. Better in my opinion to have an outgoing puppy who will calm down in time than a nervous shy one.

Hi Jean, Nice to talk to a fellow sufferer :D She is very good at ringcraft, I dont have any problems with her then, it seems to be her way of greeting me when she hasnt seen me for about 5 mins. Its kind of.."Yahoo, theres mumyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" and the big stupid lump just catapults herself to greet me. (Perhaphs she thinks she get there faster by leaping :) ) I agree with you though, having had both kinds, I would much rather have her outgoing as she is, than shy and retiring. Hopefully she will either stop doing it, or I will curb it in time ( says she with fingers crossed)

Jean and I compare notes as her Mal Chewi sounds very much like Hudson in his exuberance for life :)

Are you posting new pics of Dusty soon?

Hi Melody, yes hopefully by the weekend, I will try and catch her mid flight, that will give you all a chuckle, a cream skybound giant puppy lol

ps my little lad tried to ride our old rotty the other day! she was sat in the garden and he grabbed her collar and wrapped his legs round her and just held on till she walked!! :D

Julie,
Just make sure that the ground is all clear when your lad does that :) A couple of times I fell off my collie when I was about 3-5 years old. One-- I landed on the base of a window ledge and creased my forehead.....stitches and the dent is still there today. Second: fell onto my face and pushed my front teeth back up into the gums :( Yowie!! That one I kind of remember.
My mom was always worried about being accused of abuse or neglect due to my injuries.

No worries there Sara, Kieran never gets a very long ride as once Lucy realises he's there she sits down again!!
And as for being a jockey  as long as he makes as much money as Frankie then I think I can deal with it!!! :D

Hi Julie, Will promise to try and do some piccies at the weekend. You sound like you have a jockey in the making there!!! D
