In desperate need of some fashion advice, I have a date tomorrow night (yippee) going to a smart pub in Glasgow, hes a friend of a friend. Anyway, going through my wardrobe yesterday to find an outfit, have narrowed it down to few pieces, am tempted to wear a "boyfriend blazer" and jeans, but unsure what top to wear underneath it? The jeans are dark blue, skinny with slight bootcut, wearing with heels, blazer is black, slightly shiny material. I'm 5'7, size 10-12, shoulder length auburn hair and 24years old. I'm rubbish at fashion and co-ordinating clothes together, so any help much appreciated. Also, any tips on successful dating, having come out of a 8year relationship earlier this year, this is my first in a while!! Thanks.

A nice fitting vest top or sleeveless tunic type top will be perfect under your blazer.  You could get away with any colour, really, but I'd be inclined to stick to darks...although electric blue/green/gold would all look fab with your hair colour.  What colour are your shoes?  If you want to dress it up a bit, go for a piece of statement jewellery...a funky brooch or corsage on the lapel of your blazer or a chunky statement necklace will make all the difference. Don't go OTT...one or t'other will suffice.

Sorry...not much help on the dating front...I've been with the same person for nearly 13 years so I've forgotten the etiquette (if I ever knew it in the first place!!)  I suppose the best thing you can do is be yourself and don't get too drunk :-)

Have a fab time.  Do let us know how you get on.

Soz...me again.

Something like this top would be perfect and do away with the need for jewellery.  I've got one very similar (although mine is just from New Look and a good bit cheaper than that one ;-) )  I wore it with a similar outfit to yours (jeans, heels, blazer) to an art exhibition a few weeks ago and got photographed for the Ulster Tatler mag so it must have looked ok :-)

Or like this

I think this colour would be great on you

My friend has this top and it's gorgeous on her.

This is pretty too.

Oh...can I just come shopping with you tomorrow? :-D

Thanks very much, a great help, i LOVE the oasis tops, especially blue-green gorgeous! and the last top, in grey is beautiful. I would love for you to come shopping with me lol, you anywhere near Falkirk? I'm taking car to train station so wont be drinking, not sure if this is a good or bad thing hmmmm. I'm really excited, but so nervous, already have butterflies thinking about it!
- By ShaynLola Date 16.12.09 19:21 UTC
Alas, I'm on the wrong side of the Irish Sea :-D  Get yourself down to Oasis and I'm sure you'll look a million dollars in whatever you choose :-)

Probably very wise not to drink...it can be easy to swill it down faster than normal when you're nervous and that's a recipe for disaster on a first date.  Oooh...when did I get all sensible? :-D  Just try to enjoy yourself :-)

Gosh, ShaynLola, could have done with you last week - you're good! Love that last one!

Good luck on the date - just be yourself, and remember he's probably just as nervous :-)

I've now been seeing my partner for six months. On our first date I thought he was really confident and a bit full of himself but as I've got to know him I've realised that it was all a front. We just had a real laugh on our first date my stomach hurt when I got home.

Don't go into too much detail about your previous relationships or problems on a first date. If your not sure about him do see him again unless there's something you really dislike as I don't think you can really tell from one date.

Also if you don't hear from him don't keep ringing or texting. My boyfriend didn't contact me for a week. I thought I wasn't going to hear from him again. When he rang I just kept it friendly and didn't say anything. Most men don't like needy women, especially if they have just come out of a relationship.

Enjoy yourself and keep us posted.

Hi there,

Good luck on your date! Sure you won't need it though!

I think a nice cami would look good underneath :-)

On the tips front I would just reiterate what everyone else has said, don't get drunk! Also don't put on an act, be yourself as if it develops it can be hard to sustain, don't talk about your ex, don't talk about yourself toooo much, and make eye contact :-)

i know nothing of fashion despite the family connection.....all Ill say is theres not much point in going as something you're not, as you will either have to live up to it for the duration of relationship, or let him down when he discovers that that wasnt the real you!! LOL. Just go for your normal stuff, that way he knows what hes getting :)

((((((((((((((((((( Whit- Woooooooo!! ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
                              ;O)

I agree with Sam and also dont forget

> I'm rubbish at fashion

So are Blokes!!!! (women tend to dress for women.... Most blokes are bemused by some of our 'fashions')

Wear what makes you comfy and confident. However I am going to stipulate that you must must must wear Gorrrrgeous underwear!!!!
(Not that he is going to get anywhere near it of course ;-) )

No tips.... you don't need them, really *you* don't Suz. Just remember the golden rules:
Dont get Drunk and Don't talk about your Ex!!

Now go shave your legs and have a great time Tiger!! :-D

Have to ask, how did it go? Was he a frog or a prince? :)
- By suz1985 [gb] Date 18.12.09 23:55 UTC
thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated! In the end I wore my old faithful jeans, make my legs look longer than they are, a simple black vest top with a casual light grey cardigan thrown over, with a nice delicate bracelet.

So.....well, he was really nice, really really. We chatted away all night (he loves dogs thank goodness, doesnt have one at moment as hes doing phD, but had them growing up and sometimes walks his friends dog to get out and about) he was a true gentleman, didnt ogle, didnt make any inappropriate jokes, and made me feel at ease.

I drove, so didnt drink which was fine, I wore amazing underwear, though he most definetely did not see that, and there may have been a small goodnight kiss at end of night woohoo!!

(im still smiling :) )
