yes i watched it and i must admit i enjoyed it, there was a lot for her to learn in 5 weeks so she did well, she also did well not to panic at the end when the baby came out, i thought he was dead.

Yes i watched it. Very interesting.
Possibly done to try and bring the numbers back up as the country is crying out for midwives??

Had I continued my training it's what I would have done, midwifery, it's fascinating.

I watched it, and she did cram an awful lot into 5 wks but I just felt that it undermined the long hard training that midwives do.

didnt make me feel that way because at the end the Midwives were amazing with the new born that amanda should have delivered . She really just talked to the new mum to calm her while they worked on the boy.

I dont think they would have agreed to filming if they thought it would undermine thier work.

It wasn't so much their work it was thier long training to do their job. Perhaps the midwives taking part agreed to the filming for whatever reason but I wonder how every midwife in the country feels after seeing it. When I did my general nurse training, we had to be over 21 and a registered nurse before we would even be considered for midwifery training, I know it is different now but I think an insight into real midwifery training could have done a lot more for the profession! I see what you mean ..without Amanda Holden ....you may be right but there is a programme on documentary channels about midwives so I presume they thought a celebrity may give them some higher viewing ratings.

> there is a programme on documentary channels about midwives

I don't have sky tv so didn't know about that one.

I agree rjs , I felt that it didn't do the profession justice but I quess that if they were trying to give people a taster to get them at least looking with a celebrity fronting the programme it would have done that.
In the end I felt she did a good job of being a "birth partner " + a bit of basic nursing for the mum and keeping her calm and smiling but the real work was done but those that really had the training.
My dil is hoping to start her nursing training in september with a view to becoming a midwife in the future not sure how she would feel at the fast track amanda got shame I haven't got sky it would be interesting to watch the other programme on there.

> i thought he was dead.

They all come out that colour but usually pink up quickly after a lusty cry !!  Unfortunately that chap took a bit longer because of the Ventouse delivery ( i never did like them ).
I gave up Midwifery after my first child as i didn't like the way the job became like a conveyor belt with numbers being more important than mums and babies .
' Midwife ' means ' with woman ' , not get her in and out as quick as possible with an epidural and a hormone drip to speed up the delivery .
