I am having an absolute nightmare !! Having already lost one puppy recently, I now have a second with all the same symptoms and everything I am reading is telling me one course of treatment but the vet will only give the treatment that has given on the lab report. I do understand but I have been through this once already and the other puppy died within 24 hours of becoming ill :-(
Is there anyone here that has some veterinary background that could give me a second opinion ?? I know that sounds bizarre but no others vets locally can and I am desperate to save her.

There is a site which may help you called DO I NEED A VET. You can ask questions on there which will be answered by stuart, a vet. Hope this helps. Vets are a law to themselves and never seem to appreciate their client suggesting treatment. The only one I've met was a RCVS specialist who treated my last dog. He was so nice. He listened and thought about anything I put forward. Quite a rare vet !

Insist on a second Opinion, preferably from a Vet that is a breeder themselves, or go to another Vet Practise, your entitled to go to whichever vet you wish.

I would change Vets and ask at the the start of the consultation that you really need them to listen to your ideas.  My vet is open to my ideas as he knows I research my dogs problems and I used to be vet nurse.  He is one in a million and I would recommend him to anyone.  Be prepared to travel to see a great vet.  Maybe you could put your location on here and someone could recommend a great vet to you??

Thanks all. Unfortunately seeing a vet from another practice is out of the question in this case as the dog is actually in quarantine and I am feeling totally stuck.
I am going there in the morning and will insist that I get a second opinion from the owner of the practice though and hopefully can get the right help before it is too late.
I used to think vets were there to help animals and because they really loved them but lately the only thing they seem to be interested in is how much they can get away with charging :-(

I am lucky because my vet and any vet I have seen including a specialist has listened to my views and taken them on board and we have always discussed and agreed any treatments.
Sometimes you have to be a bit forceful with them, not rude may I add just forceful.  Take in the info you have and tell them you want to try it. 
Remember you pay them for thier services.  Yes they are knowledgable but sometimes they don't think of everything.
Our vet keeps guinea pigs so is good with thier treatments.  My daughter was convinced her G. Pig had diabetes, vet said no not possible, my daughter 16 at the time insisted she did and asked him to check her urine.  He did and then said your right your G.pig is diabetic.
So be insistent and if they refuse ask for a valid reason.  We chat to our vets like you would chat to a friend so there are no barriers and no thinking they are some sort of God.

I would do the same and go in and make a fuss, be firm, upfront, and dont get brushed aside, you have worries that need checking, you are willing to pay for this and should be taken seriously and stress this.  Is it  not possible for another vet to go to the quarantine area or is the quaratine at your vets.  Good luck will be thinking of you
