Hi guys

I currently have a child on foster placement and i have to record what they use the internet for (cant say to much on here)  I have just had to borrow a computer of a friend as ours is broke.  Before I used to be able to go to internet options and look in the temp file at what they had been looking at and searching for, however since getting this new computer why i click on any thing it states that the application is not found? however does show you what sites/pages they have been on, but as i say once you click on it says application not found.? anyone know why?

Most computer savvy kids wil be able to adjust any settings and or delete history to prevent you from checking up on them.  Do you know if that is the case with your foster child?

Do you use Internet Explorer? I run Firefox now but if I remember IE correctly go to Internet Options then General.  You may need to adjust your Browsing History settings.  Once you've done this you should be able to view all recently accessed sites and pages within those sites by clicking on the yellow star, somewhere on your tool bar.  If the history option isn't showing then you'll need to add it. HTH :)

If any sites are protected by passwords you won't be able to see precise information like PM's but you'll know what sites they've visited.  If you needed to check Facebook content you'll be able to see some of this if you have your own account and more if you are a 'friend'.  Where there are serious concerns regarding safety then you may need to block some sites.  A word of caution though, if blocked at home they may still access via portable technology and make it more difficult for you to check.  Good luck

Hi thanks for the message, she tends to delete the history in the tool bar, however on my old computer the sistes still showed on in the temp internet folder, and when you clicked on each one it would show the exact page they viewed and at one time.  This new computer still does this but when you click on the item in the temp internet folder it says application not found :-(

Hmmmmnnn the problem with the temp folders is that they hold huge amounts of data associated with the site visited - from script elements to pictures - and each part of the page viewed is listed.  Your system is unlikely to be able to open these in isolation.  I'm not familiar enough with IE to unstick you but suggest you might try to copy and paste the address into your search engine and see if you can find the pages that way.  Sorry not to be more help.

You might find some useful advice on CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre).  Even if the topics aren't  directly relevant it might be a good place to start.  I know they have information about keeping your child safe on the internet.
