Hi i have a four year old bullmastiff, on his back paws, his pads have split, they don't look sore and he will let me look at them, but it looks like he has fur growing on the edge of his pads, but its actually his pads have split, should i be worried, is it comon or should i just take him for the vet to check him out?

if he is not sore and they dont feel hot to the touch, then i wouldnt take him to the vet. if they start getting, sore, hot or weepy then a trip to the vet may be necessary for a dose of anti biotics. keep cleaning the feet with hibiscrub dilution or something similar and apply moisturiser to soften them up, preventing splitting

One of my girls gets it when we've been doing alot of canix/bikejoring. Its just dry, worn out skin, and it looks furry because of the skin texture/build up on the pads. I use this stuff on a regular basis and it does help. some vaseline can help too (best before bed time for the sake of the floors!)

Obviously if it gets sore etc then straight to the vets.
