Hi could someone please tell me how much 1 week 1 day old toy puppies should be taking in by syringe (not bottle) each 2 hour feed. As someone said 12.5ml and it seems as if its too much.
12.5 every 2h for tiny pups seems alot to me too ,im not sure with small breed how much do they weigh? i have 6day old pups (large breed) and they wouldnt be able to drink that amount ,why syringe? they take alot of air doing it this way!
Depends on size of pup, but as a rule of thumb my large toy breed (pugs) take 2.5 - 5 ml per feed, I know that is a big range, but pups of a week old can range between just about 4-5 oz to 10 oz.
Any reason you are having ot syringe rather than bottle?
I'm using a syringe as I only found out on Sunday bitch had no milk. (pups were fine and putting on weight) I only has syringes in the house. When I got some bottles today they refused to take any. I am going to try to swich them to bottles.
P.s
Does anyone knopw when to swich from 2 hour to 3/4 hour feeds?
If the pups are gaining weight etc. then the bitch does have milk. I haven't been able to get milk out of my girl since she had her pups but I know by their size (they're massive) that there's milk and plenty of it.
> I have had a bitch do her pups really well, and never have full boobs.
Me too. I had a bitch that I really couldn't squeeze much from at all. Weighing the pups daily proved to me that they were drawing more off her than I could!
