Topic Other Boards / Foo / Mid range Mobile phone- which one??
- By HuskyGal Date 04.12.09 21:20 UTC
I'm looking for a mid range Mobile, not really interested in the new 'Smart phones' I had the iphone when it came out and sold it last month.
(Think I'm the only person in the World who didn't really like it that much!?)

Anyway I have a work Laptop and phone so don't really need alot of the 'apps' etc on smart phones.

What I'm looking for is just a decent Mid range mobile that has a few gimmicks but not too singing dancing as I just get confused!!

I'm really looking for one thats good for Champdogs and Facebook (;-)) I have a long commute into work on packed commuter trains so can't get my laptop out.

I've been looking at the Genio touch, the Cookie and the Tocco - Anyone have these?? can recommend them??
(I've had a fiddle with them all in the phone shop but cant decide between them)

I'm currently using my old LG PRADA which looks lovely and is my old faithful but is a bit old hat now apps wise.
Much appreciated if anyone can help this hopeless Libran make a decision!!

I had a Cookie before I got my iphone...if you hadn't already had an iphone, I'd have probably recommended it but, in comparison, it is rubbish.  If you weren't a fan of the iphone before, get a Cookie and I guarantee you that you'll chuck it under a tube train in frustration as you're hot-footing it to the nearest Apple shop to get the 3GS ;-)

Before the Cookie, I had the Nokia N95 8gb briefly.  Very good phone, on paper, but it reminded me of why I hadn't had a Nokia for years...and why I'll probably never have another.  Oh, and it's really huge and chunky which completely ruins the line of your outfit if you want to keep it in a pocket ;-)

Of the ones you mention, I'd probably opt for the Samsung Tocco (but they'll have to prise the iphone out of my cold, dead hands first :-D )

I've had the Blackberry Bold 9000 for 2 months and hate it with a vengeance,  it's now advertised in our local Freeads paper will be glad to see the back of it.  I've now got a Nokia E71 and love it, but then I had the N95 for 2 years before that and only updated as I was entitled to a freebie with my contract.

My niece had the Samsung Tocco Light for her birthday, 1st one broke in a day, 2nd one within 2 days, she's now got a completely different phone altogether.  Apparently there are faults with this phone.

This is what we have and I love it ! Very easy to use and it is quite robust as I have dropped it quite a few times without any problems !

I've the first version of the Tocco that came out, and am not impressed with it! the touch screen drives me mad.  For instance if I'm trying to find train times, it seems impossible to select a station from the drop down list without it scrolling past it several times!  By the time I've managed to select the one I want the trains gone :(

there's a few niggly bits I don;t like about it but can't remember what they are!  I've 10 days til i can get an upgrade and will prob get a blackberry without a touch screen!

My husband and I and 3 of the teens have a Samsung Genio each. They have now come down to about £78 and have facebook, twitter, google and loads of apps on them. One daughter had a toco, but it was a disaster from start to finish. My husband isnt technical when it comes to phones but he loves his Genio!

My husband has one of these too and he regrets buying it for this reason (especially after using my iphone).  He has also had problems with the screen and has had it replaced twice in the last year.  I don't personally think its as user friendly as the iphone and I find it quite awkward and clumsy to use compared with mine.  Also when looking at the photos he has found that the most recent one he took appears at the bottom of the list so has to scroll down all his photos to find the most recent one.

Hubby's contract is up for renewal in a couple of weeks and he is waiting for his provider to release details of their new contracts with the iphone so he can get one.  He did look at the N95 and N96 but found these are quite bulky in comparison.
