Does anyone have any views on whether the white GSD has a different temperament to the more recognised GSD. Any information on the white GSD as a dog would be appreciated.

I don't think so although you may be told driffent by those who own 'whites'. Have known over the years a good few and they are like any other dog and differ in temperment one from the other. Tell you something though never met a true white, they were all cream or biscuit, they do seem to have a different sort of coat with less guard hairs, but then the normal colour GSD have very mixed coat types.

one thing don't be talked into paying a fortune for one, they are not rare or special except to their loving owners.

I have a White GSD and have also kept Black and Tans. I have found my White to be more alert and easier to train but also to be a lot more weary of strangers. He is happy for them to come into the house as long as it's on invitation. He would make a very good guard dog where as our last one, Duke, would have licked the burglar to death
I think that what I'm actually trying to day is that it isn't down to the colour, it's down to the individuals nature.
I think that Whites are more likely to end up in rescue due to the type of people who generally buy them, not because of the dogs temperament (which is often believed to be the case).

Like Naomi says there is really no difference whatsoever:) It's all down to personal choice really, just be sure you don't pay over the odds for one:) There is a rescue site (use google) that have quite a lot of white sheps in- maybe this could be worth a look. Good Luck!
