Can anyone clarify the qualifying rules for the YKC handling for me?
I believe that only the first prize winner qualifies for the finals at Crufts (unlike the JHA handling where the top three go to Richmond Semis) BUT it think if the 1st placed is already qualified, the second goes through....
Is this correct and does that stop at the 1/2 or would it follow that if the top two are already qualified, the third place goes through ?!?!?
15 year old daughter dissappointed that at each of the YKC classes she's picked up a third which I think was fantastic as she's only been showing a year, hated dogs and frightened of them just 4 years ago and she really works hard at learning how to get better, not to mention she's been in very experienced company each time out
Sorry forget that, I've just answered my own question as it appears now that the places DO NOT ROLL DOWN afterall.
Either I was given an old rule before or dreamt it!
Oh well - next year is just around the corner
Thank you - at least I half got it right, just the wrong YKC class!

You're welcome, I wasn't 100% sure but then I checked the website, which is great as it has a list of
ALL the shows with qualifing classes for both Stakes & Handling, including Open shows, maybe worth a look for your young one :) x

Apparently they will be putting 2010 shows on soon, the current lists are for 2009 and nearly run out. Not sure how much variation there is year to year?
The YKC handling used to be up to 5th place, if the 1st had already qualified, then the 2nd would get it, and so on. But this is the first year that they have made it only 1sts qualify. Maybe they were getting too many in the handling classes at Crufts.

I wouldn't be suprised if it were down to size. The Richmond classes were very big. I think the gundog group took well over an hour to judge and I can't imagine the Crufts schedule could allow that much time to one event..
My friend's son showed in Crufts YKC handling last year and there were about 20 entered in it, so I suppose they could see the numbers going up and up! It's a shame though for the juniors that miss out on a 1st place though over the year, and some kids are winning more than one 1st at different shows of course!
You can only qualify for YKC handling class by being placed 1st in a YKC handling class. Sorry but this is the ruling. I know its heart breaking for her. Just keep on with the encouragement she will make it. Maybe look at why she gets 3rd ask the judge it may be just one silly little thing! We did and olivia corrected it next show and got her first. It always pays to ask.

She did go and ask. She knows exactly where she went wrong and isn't really upset. It was initially a query about roll over of the places when 1st has already qualified but I answered that when I looked again at the site and realised that it is the Stakes and not the handling it applies too. I think the people I'd been talking too were obviously thinking about previous years where perhaps the places had rolled in both..
Hoping that her new relationship with the puppy will help her get her place in 2010/11.
Well at least she had the guts to go and ask. Well done to her and best of luck for 2010/11. A new pup is such a good idea olivia has worked with hers since 12 weeks old and they are so close. It was hard at first because she was a puppy and it was difficult to shadow as the pup just wanted to play, but 14 months on and it has all fallen into place and they do really well.
all the best to her and her new pup!
