Topic Other Boards / Foo / Song help?
- By Tessies Tracey Date 30.11.09 09:27 UTC
Hi there all.

I could really do with some help to identify a song if possible?

My son has a friend who has recorded her own written and played songs which sound beautiful, and I thought her voice to be very very similar to that of a young black female artist from a few years ago.
I can remember parts of the tune in my head, and that the artists name was possibly just the one name.  It possibly could have been her only hit too.
I can only remember parts of the music video, which I'm fairly sure was partly animated, bright and colourful and sort of flowery (possibly animated animals too).  Song was quite slow and gentle and quite a pretty song.....the young artist has I think short dark hair...
Oh dear, not a lot to go on, but if anyone has any brainwaves, I'd be most appreciative!

Thanks!
Tracey

Aww, sadly, no.  Not Gabrielle or Sonique.  Younger, definitely younger than Gabrielle.
This might sound a bit silly, but the music video actually reminds me of a ladies personal hygiene advert! lol

aaah you see what I mean - it's driving me insane!!! lol
No, it's a much slower song than the one you've just linked.

Right, in Australia, there has been a green tea advert, now that advert AND the song totally remind me of the one song I can think of this young girl doing, even to the point of the growing flowers etc....

Corinne Bailey Rae?  Not sure if the spellings right.

Oh bostontea you are an angel!!!!!  Brownie points for you.  Thank you so much!

Indeed, Corinne Bailey Rae it is!!!  Like a Star is the song.

OK, so not animated, but there are trees in the video! lol

The voices are quite similar aren't they?  Well I thought so :)

Anyhoo, point being, my sons very talented young lady friend has a voice similar to both of them.

yes the song in the add does sound alike,
well i hope she does very well with her songs
its hard for new artists to get noticed and i  wish her all the best of luck,

She release an album, imaginatively titled 'Corinne Bailey Rae' in 2006 and it went to no. 1. She release 'Like a star' 'Put your records on' and 'Trouble sleeping' but has been pretty quiet since.

Oh bless you chelzeagirl, that's really kind.  Not sure that she's quite that far ahead just yet, but sounds good so far!

bostontea, I forgot how much I actually like CBR, so will be downloading her album now I've been given her name :)

my son new Leona Lewis before she went on x factor , she won uk unsigned an event my son attended when she won it even tho she won and did make an album before she was famous she still couldnt get signed , not sure if its same where you are but its very hard here to get noticed , i find it shocking that Leona with her talent  had to go thu the x factor to make it realy,
i mean are their no record lables here that would give the girl a chance before she lined the pockets of Mr Cowell

I have no idea what its like here, only been here 6 months! lol

My son's friend is still in the UK, so perhaps she'll get herself onto one of 'those' shows and try out.  I'm not sure what her ambitions or aspirations are.
My son also has a group of friends who formed a band some years ago.  They have a myspace web page, but have recently managed to get themselves some local gigs and so on, so a good start I think.
I just think it's great that there are so many talented musicians around these days, but yes sadly, they don't seem to always get a break.

sorry also wanted to say the same about the Dance groups like Diversity who won BGT these boys have been at it for years before BGT even started but other than the street dance weekend yearly shows and the world championships and a few other comps they all do their very little heard about these things unless your in that world ,
flawless was another dance group and they to have spent years doing their thing as a group but theirs very little money in it for them, thats why they go on things like BGT to get reconized and hopefully earn a living from what they do, Flawless moto was Chase the Dream and not the compertiton , says it all really,
my sons been in Ruthless for years now and has competed against all the dance groups they are all chasing dream but its very hard and dont pay unless you make it big again very hard,

My niece trained with Diversity and is in a dance group in Colchester, finds it a wonderful pastime and is very very committed.
My friends son here in Australia studies in Brisbane, art, dance, acting etc, and seems to have done very well too.  He's starting out on a very large cruise ship, but again commitment is everything.
I think commitment is definitely a big thing, and perhaps similarly to dog showing, it isn't always about getting to the top and being the best, it's about enjoying yourself?  Perhaps!  lol
I do think perhaps more should/could be done to nurture talent, but up against all the other 'things' that need financial support, it's probably not got much chance hey?

What about :

Miss You - Rolling Stones
Autumn Leaves - Nat King Cole (or his daughter's version)

Most of the others I can think of have already been mentioned.

Hope these help.  :-)

I heard just a few days ago that she has been absent from the music scene due to the death of her husband last year.  Very sad.
