Hi white lilly
Bet you're glad that you have her there safe and sound, and we are now within a viable time span! It does sound as if she's close doesn't it?
One of my girsl that started some weeks back, at 11am - I stayed with all day, and by 10pm I knew I daren't sleep, so got a book out to keep me going. She whelped at 5am the following day, but I'm glad that I didn't snooze off, as she needed help getting the head out. One pup - a boy - big head! It's a male thing! :-)
Seriously, I would be awake for her. I know they can mess us about, but you can't risk any accidents. Good Luck!
thanks jean ,whats worring me is when she had the scan done on monday ,was told 1st pup will be bum/back legs 1st! so i know there might be afew problems maybe? but can they turn at that stage before whelping?
xx
big head! It's a male thing! :) and i bet her 1st will be male too ,lol x

Back legs first - no problem at all. You can usually see the little legs kicking, and need to get pup out before sac breaks and pup suffocates.
I'm always prepared for this "just in case", and fill 4 syringes with obstetric gel when bitch goes into labour. (Squirt it down the sink if not needed!)
If you squirt it inside her, evenly around the vulva (it's ever so easy, the vulva will be all soft and stretchy), the next contraction will shoot pup out (unless it's got it's head stuck.)
If it is true breech, you will see the bum, and the tail curled round the bum. I hate these, they are the most difficult, and, unless the vet lives next door, you have no choice but to give it a go. They are so, so hard to get hold of, and my vet tells me that the cord is often around the neck. I was fortunate with my only true breech, and got pup out in around 4 minutes, and it was a success - but I sweat cobs I'll tell you!
obstetric gel ? is that what they use for scaning ? if so i have some ! thank so much for that ,thats something i will be doing , im prayin its feet 1st ,shes asleep now and no panting :) so hopfuly she not be having them yet ...im so tired already lol....
thanku for that advise i feel better now :) x

I use this one - it's cheap and cheerful - and does the trick!
http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Obstetric-Gel-500ml/productinfo/OBS9006362/But I guess it's no different to what you have. I know loads of folk tell you to use KY jelly, but I find this much slidier (is that a word), you know what I mean! They just slide out so, so easy, and with some pups, the faster you get them out, the better.
I reckon around a quarter of my pups have come feet first, so get prepared, and I can't believe how much easier it makes things. I dread the true breech, as you can't grasp properly. I never wear gloves, just wash my hands in hibiscrub, I find I can feel better without gloves. Get some dry flannels ready, may make it easier to get hold if it's a proper breech.
slidier (is that a word) lol well if it isnt , it is this time in a morning :) ......do you know if a pup can turn from day 54 to day 58 ?
i will get some of that from hyperdrug for next time :O lol xx

I'm sorry to say that I doubt if pup would turn this late. And I'm sure that you wouldn't want me to lie!
As long as you have some sort of gel, you are at least, at an advantage. Being prepared is half the battle. And staying calm is the other.
To be honest, unless you have a bitch with inertia (so you need a vet for oxytocin), or a C-section, most things we have to manage don't we?
By the time you've got a bitch in the car, and raced to the surgery, it is extremely likely that the sac isn't still intact, so the best bet for a live pup is to get them to slide out!!! :-)
I'm off to bed, but do let us all know how things work out. Good luck - you'll be fine. :-)
thanks hun you have been VERY helpful good night , and i will x

Good Luck Lilly, any news this morning?
no lol she kept me up panting ,i feel dead to the world ,shes lyin there a streched out tring to sleep bless her ! will be temp time soon so we will see lol xx
her temp is 36.6 plz let it be morning lol

lol morning lovie.xx
my bella did this to me,started at 11pm ish and kept me awake all night, all the floowing day i spent next to her following her outside ect.took her on walks and then the snow came and i was getting sick with worry incase something really wrong hapened the snow was REALLY falling.
then i sat next to oh on sofa just shut my eyes seriously JUST... my eyelids were just going down and he said tam,you better get bella shes doin somethin so i jumped up sure enough pup was coming out.
i think she was waiting for me to calm down as id been tense all day and you cant help it i know but you have to stay calm for them.
you have done this before and you can do this again, and remember (this is what i always seem to say to myself over and over) the vet is 6 minutes away and i can always call him if im not happy.
you have a vet on hand so stop worrying, she will be fine and so will you.
keep us informed, looking forward to hearing all went well..xxx
Good luck!!
Hope its soon for ya! xx
thanks guys ;) ..well her temp is back upto 37.1 so it isnt going to be yet lol ,im off out tonight "A LADYS NIGHT" and im going now so phil will be here if she starts and he knows what hes doing after all ,im not going to drink ;) lol and im only a phone call away and 30mins in the car so im now going to get some lunch and sleep for afew hours ,been up most of the night :( ....shes eat a small amount of food so i know shes ok :) will be back here when she starts :) xx
she had me again last night !!!started geting ready to go out and off she went panting and pacein so i didnt go out :( and still no pups ! o well ,shes not eat anything yet ! or drank so we will see what today brings ,
ok her temp yeserday was 36.9 then 37.1 rest of the day ,but this morning it was 37.9? her temp hasnt never been this high! she been cleaning her self all night ,so from temp going down to going right up how long does or should it be before pups?
As I'm only on my 1st litter I can only go by that but my bitch panted mainly in the evening/night for about 4 days leading up to having the pups. Her temp went right down on the Saturday morning and she started having them at 9pm that evening. We never had any mucus plug or anything but that afternoon when I took her out she done about 4 poo's and the last couple were quite runny which I think it all very normal. Sounds like this girl is going to keep you on your toes lol. It will probably happen when you least expect it. Oh one thing I remember was the evening my girl had the pups my other bitch wouldnt leave her and was being a right pest trying to sniff in at her all the time, perhaps they can pick up the scent of an imminent birth?
Good luck :-)
funny isnt it this isnt my 1st litter but my friends ,we have the same breed! i always feel like the 1st time when it gets to this stage :) ....my boy dont leave her alone ...sniffing her back end all the time too ....theres just no pattern to her temp at all ...so different to my girls ...but i know all different in whelp and whelping away :) ,ive been looking at my girls temp chart and when she went right down to 36.6 she had her pups 24h later lol ....but your right shes flippin keeping me on my toes! thats why so worried to sleep lol .
thanks lleonder ,hopfuly not to long now ,i feel dead to the word now ,wish id said no to having her here now lol ....
ps...what did her temp go down to?
here we go again lol ,her temp was 37.9 this morning ,lunch time 37 and now 36.8 ,shes panting again and looks like she will burst open ,shes not eat today ,not drank much ether............PLZ LET IT BE VERY SOON ......i need to sleep !!! ive had a couple hours sleep today but its just not enough lol ....she keeps biting at her belly?

:) Prayers for movement from here tonight too lol
thankyou justine ....she fast asleep now Grrrrrrr ,god she could be like this for 3days yet ( cry cry ) lol my eyes are like peep holes!! another night on the sette with no sleep ,....im just prayin her temp stays down when i take it again :) x
found a small dried up patch of something on her bedding this morning ?never had this with mine only had fluid loss when in labour?, well day 60/61 , me and hubby think tonight lol ,after all this im going to keep 1 ,ive lost way to much sleep not to !

Be even more lost sleep AFTER the pups are born! :) Good luck. Just been there myself -pup(s) Thursday, kittens Friday -I've forgotten what sleep is!!
youve got your hands full marianne !! :) thankyou and well done to your girls x
well it isnt going to be tonight :( her temp is now 37.2 ,i carnt beleve just how much her temp is ranging from lowst at 36.7 (that was this morning) and the highst has been 37.9 yesterday ! i carnt even see a pattern to all these! so looks like im going to have to wait for a good drop of 36.4 maybe and it stayin down there :( ,i might get some sleep tonight lol
lots of panting going on now and and just had a look and shes got milk through now !!!!!!!! come on puppies PLEASE .....shes in out out her whelping pen ,she just dont know where to go !
just been to her bed ,and its very wet ? shes going for wee;s alot so not sure if its that or her waters ,would it smell if it was her waters?

It might be down to pressure as the puppies move down the birth canal. I've been watching your posts. I have only whelped 2 litters in the past but I can remember my bonnie peeing a lot the night before she whelped. Vet said it was pressure on the bladder. good luck I think tonight may be the night. :-D

> just been to her bed ,and its very wet
Sounds to me that she should start pushing the first one out within the hour. If she didn't I would be worried.
well been up all night :( still no pups ,her temp is still 37.2 :( but she did feel hot about 5am thismorning ? and had and white discharge from her left eye ,i think she has a cold ,i realy dont want to take her to the vets ,apart from that she is sleeping and quite ,what can i clean her eye with ? i can see pups moving thismorning ,and she is looseing alittle more plug ,i do think its not going to be long now ,all pups have moved now her shape as changed so much ,i carnt see any contrations yet ...well up date very soon ...thankyou both of you xx
what can i clean her eye with
Boiled water that you've let cool, with a pinch of salt. :)
thanku done :) ....ok update her temp is now 36.3 so hopfuly not long to go she is very wet ,shes full of milk ,just waiting for her to start contrating :) we should have pups b4 todays out "yay"
well i dont believe it ! shes just eat all her food ,shes been panting on and off all day ,she had the runs so i just dont know ...she well in herself tho ,it was wee in her bed :( lol
ahh, poor you, i bet you're shattered now and i know that feeling. Hopefully it's just the fact that she's a maiden bitch that's making her such a fuss-pot for so long. If she'd started contracting and nothing had happened for a couple of hours, then that's far more serious... have you spoken to you vet and asked them what they think? Mine were very good when I was whelping a maiden bitch this year... they didn't mind about 10 calls before she finally had to have an oxytocin jab after 3 hours of pushing!
thanks molezak ,i was starting to think i was alone on here and no1 would help me :( ....she seems well inher self but i will call vet in the morning if things havnt moved on ,shes started to pace around abit now and pant ! shes just had a big drink of water too ...i think shes only just in 1st stage witch could be another 24h yet :( but i still carnt sleep just in case ,and its the lack of this thats killing me lol ,shes still got the runs ,and after eating her meal tonight shes going to have me in and out with her , i hate night time for that watching and praying they dont have a pup outside :(

> she seems to breath quite quickly then stops for afew seconds
I'm guessing that she is in some amount of pain. Are her eyes glazed yet? If so, I would want a vet to check if she's dilated, in case she needs oxytocin.
Would you recognise inertia? I think I've had so many with it, that I could now write the book! LOL
The loose poos are usually a good indication that we're on our way. I don't know if others find it, but mine seem to clear out ready.

Yes mine clear out too, lots of small poo's, quite loose, a good sign things are on the move. We had inertia with our last litter too! :(

I can't believe she's still not gone for you!! Isn't there someone who could sit with her in the day and let you catch up on a few hours sleep - her owners perhaps?
Good luck and keep us posted x
update :) no pups BUT now we have a good temp drop thats stayed down for the last 4h "yay" she now dont want to eat or drink ,another good sign! my kids are just geting up for school so im going to get them sorted and hopfuly we shall have puppies for lunch time :)
plz get everything crossed she has them soon !!!!!:)
I'm not sure I would recognise inertia - some of your experiences would be helpful to many of us I'm positive of that. When you have time, perhaps a new topic that we can use for reference.
Thanks in advance

OMG talk about keeping you waiting white lily :)
Sounds like things are on the move now, so maybe when your house has gone abit quieter, she will get on with the job! Good luck! :)
kids gone now :) shes just been out for a wee and she kept tryin to do more wee's so hopfuly not long now :)
OMG talk about keeping you waiting white lily
Day 62? Sounds like she's been reading Book of the Bitch to me! :)
