Topic Dog Boards / General / Malawar Puppies (!!!)

Advertised in my local paper last night "Malawar (police dog) cross puppies for sale" - I'm guessing they mean Malinois?!

Can you believe some people? I find it hard to understand why anyone would buy a dog of a person that could't even spell / pronounce the breed properly. Someone will though and these stupid idiots will make a quick buck from it... I doubt that they have "wasted" their money on health tests, visiting studs, travelling all over the country showing their dog to prove her worth for breeding.

It enrages me!!

Dreadful. :(

We seem to have a lot of people who can't pronounce it. Heard over the tannoy at many a championship show: "The judging of Mali-NOY will now start in ring x". Almost all of the working strain breeders refer to the breed as "Belgian Malinois" which is not correct in the UK, it is the US breed name -here of course it is called "Belgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois)". But in daily speak it is Malinois -as in "Mal-in-oah".

It's so, so sad that more and more disreputable people are breeding these dogs -they are not suitable for the average owner.

Happens all the time.  I've even seen ads for Chiwawa's and Yorkshire Terriors!

West Island White is popular.

It does happen with my breed too - Douge de Bordeaux - It just infuriates me that people buy from these "breeders"!!

To be fair, many newspaper ads are placed over the phone so the error could be on the part of the person taking the message (it does look like it's been written as it's said)/  A friend had this problem when she advertised an item for sale that featured pictures of 'BURMESE' mountain dogs and the error was most definitely not hers.

That said, the ad for 'police dogs' does make me despair....

Yep, I've seen "black Westies" for sale!  Also, today in my local English freebie paper was an ad for pedigree Chiazu's.  Now whether that's a chihuahua or a shih tsu (whoops, sorry, I've forgotten the spelling) or a cross between the two I have no idea, but hardly my idea of a pedigree dog from a reputable breeder.

I saw an ad in a local paper that had obviously been misheard over the phone for "box of puppies". I can only assume it was meant to read "boxer puppies"!

LOL hope so anyway. Mind you nowadays anything happens.    Numbers very low year on year in the BRS, is less dogs being bred or less being registered I wonder?  a bit of both maybe..

A similar thing that really annoys me is adverts for Presa Canarios that refer to them as Spanish Mastiffs, when in fact they are two separate breeds with the FCI ( Spanish Mastiff and Presa)

I know I'm probably being a bit picky and in some ways it is an understandable mistake because the Presa is from the Canary Islands and not many people know what a real Spanish Masiff looks like but on the other hand you would expect a serious breeder to be aware of the correct name for their breed!

I first came accross this when I was searching to find out if anyone in the UK breeds Spanish Mastiffs (which they don't as far as I know) so it really annoyed me when I had my hopes up that some one did.
