A white miniature schnauzer puppy, they are asking £1,000 because they said they are rare its not an albino. I have to say i have never seen that colour before. But for a pepper & salt puppy they want half the price.

Are there any health risks with a white puppy?

I hope its ok to put the price on here, sorry if its not. :)

They are recognised and given separate CC' in all the colours in FCI countries, but whites are not recognised here.

Rareness is not a good/reputable reason to overcharge and white puppies should cost no more than the standard (for UK) colours.  some might argue less,  s they are not recognised in the UK as a standard colour.

As to health issues, other than what the breed is prone to???

Here are some Google links http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=health+issues+in+white+schnauzers&meta=

Ive hurd and seen picks of white ones but ive never met one. In some places its a Disqualification colour and some its allowed (our breed standard doesnt mention solid white but in America its listed as a Disqualification)

:-) As Brainless has already said, in FCI countries they are recognised, but over here, America and Canada, they are asking a ridiculous price for a colour which is a fault, it should actually be cheaper not dearer  but I dare say someone will believe it to be rare and unique when it isn't and think they have something special, that is the difference between someone just hoping to make money and a breeder who understands their breeds genetics, anyone else would either sell a dog with a colour fault at the same price or even less, not ask for more. :-D

If it is a genuine person seeking to get the breed/colour recognised then fair enough they have the right to do so, but they should not be asking more than for standard colours.

Gee wiz my breed could be called rare when we only had 55 pups registered last year, and most years only around the 100 mark, yet they are a normal price for a medium size breed and cheaper than many.

I'll ask the top person who breeds them tomorrow what he thinks to that price.  They are at the moment trying to get them recognised properly over here, don't see why not as there are no health problems that I knkow of as they have good pigmentation etc.

Thanks for all your replies.

Could a white schnauzer get sun burn in the summer?
- By Tricolours [gb] Date 17.11.09 20:35 UTC
It's just an enquiry really about the sunburn, i don't leave my dogs out in the sun unless they want to be there. One of my dogs likes to sunbathe, i have shade as well as sun in our garden.

The breeder where I got Leo from had some white Mini Schnauzers - I'm not sure now if they were imports or bred from imports. I remember seeing one of the white bitches and it peed on my shoe!

They did look nice - but I when I got told the price of the next white litter I decided not to order one.

I think there are a couple of breeders near me (S Yorks/Notts/Lincs border) that breed them now but I don't know what price they are going for.

I have to say i prefure the black minitures myself. :)

I like Black or black and silver rather than pepper and salt.

I've got one of the rarest breeds worldwide yet his puppy price didn't come near the 1000 Sterling tag. I've seen white Schnauzers back in Germany but they wouldn't take my fancy, I am not a big fan of the colour white in dogs/other pets/horses.
