Many years ago I met him and his wife (Michelle Dotrice) walking their dogs on Edgehill, when they lived in the village. They had a BMD and tricolour CKCS; they looked like mother and puppy! Very pleasant, friendly people.
Sad indeed. He did seem to be a very nice man. When we heard the news we did have to smile - do you remember Big Brother a few years ago, the series which Cameron won ?. One night they were talking and one chap said why has Edward Woodward got 4 'd's' in his name ?. It's not the same written down but the answer was of course that otherwise he'd be called 'Ewar Woowar' which sounded so funny. I'm sure he didn't mind and it's nice to remember somebody with a smile.
Very Sad, My Dads claim to fame is that he bumped into Edward Woodward on Dartmoor in a cafe once and when he went to the toilet he stood beside E.W having a wee :-)
He will always be remembered for his role in the brilliant 'Wicker Man'. This is one of my favourite films and he played the exasperated copper to perfection.
