Topic Dog Boards / General / Champdogs Forum 10th Anniversary Reunion
- By MarkR Date 05.11.09 12:06 UTC Edited 05.11.09 12:12 UTC
Inspired by the When did you join Champdogs ? & Missing Members threads and amongst other things the comment by ceejay:

"nice to see some folks posting here that we haven't seen for a while"

I thought it might be an idea to see if we can contact some of the old members who we haven't seen on here for a while. A sort of old school reunion to celebrate Champdogs 10th anniversary.

Some of the people who are mentioned in those threads and who no longer post are still members. Maybe a PM from one or two of you might entice them to come back and contribute. Perhaps you have an email address or a phone number for a long forgotten member ?

With reunions there is always the worry about how many people will turn up. How many ex champdoggers do you think we can get back to their keyboards, any advance on 50 ?

And what are the odds on a "playground fight", or will old differences be forgotten ? :-)
- By Cava14Una Date 05.11.09 12:37 UTC
Oh great idea!! I can think of 2 I can contact which may well lead to a few more :-D
- By Blue Date 05.11.09 13:02 UTC
Good Idea Mark.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.11.09 13:19 UTC
How do we know whether the people we miss are still members? Is there a memberlist anywhere on site?
- By MarkR Date 05.11.09 15:04 UTC
"How do we know whether the people we miss are still members?"

Just put their username in the Google Sitesearch at the bottom of this page and you should find one of their old posts. Then click on their name and it will tell you whether they are still a member.

I've just tried that with a couple of names that I know are no longer members for one reason or another but they still show as if they are still members
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 05.11.09 17:30 UTC
Shame really ...a couple of people have been banned that imo should not have been ...but I suppose if there were to be a Grand Reconcilation Celebration and bans were lifted, bans would have to be lifted all round :(

But hey - what do I know ?
- By kayc [gb] Date 05.11.09 17:54 UTC
what about an amnesty :-)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 05.11.09 17:58 UTC
Good idea Kay ....but what about the Multiple Personality Posters ...would they be able to cope :-D

So do we encourage banned members to log in under a new user name ( as so many people have done ;-) ) or can we ask for the user to be reactivated then Mark ? :-)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 05.11.09 22:08 UTC
An amnesty would be a very good idea :)

I am sure I go around with my eyes shut :-) who have I missed, mind you I rarely notice the banned ones disappear :-)

Lucy were you 2001 also , I seem to remember that..

- By Blue Date 06.11.09 10:29 UTC
Great Anne :-)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 07.11.09 10:19 UTC
Mark - is there an amnesty for "banned" members???
- By Oldilocks [ir] Date 07.11.09 10:45 UTC

> Mark - is there an amnesty for "banned" members???

If there isn't there should be IMO.  When you think of some of the things that the existing members have written, I can't see how anyone who is banned could have written any worse to be honest.  That is assuming that some of the 'banned' members will even want to come back.  :)
- By MarkR Date 09.11.09 08:16 UTC
No amnesty I am afraid.
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 09.11.09 10:38 UTC
Well I know for certain that one banned member (at least) rejoined under a pseudonym    would still appear to be a member ...
- By Lea Date 09.11.09 12:58 UTC
Thats a shame as there are at least 5 banned members that have rejoined under other names. Although it is a fun game spotting banned members! Think one has rejoined at least 3 times after being banned each time! Lol :) its a shame the well respected ones that do follow their ban cant have amnesty on their bans! Lol lea :)
- By Oldilocks [ir] Date 09.11.09 13:37 UTC

> No amnesty I am afraid.

What a pity.  :(
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 09.11.09 13:57 UTC
So....those that are devious and have re-joined under another name/s get away with it - correct?
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 09.11.09 14:07 UTC
So you want everyone who is been banned back?
- By Oldilocks [ir] Date 09.11.09 14:11 UTC
As a previous poster has already said, there have been banned members joining back under different usernames, so what is the difference in allowing all banned mambers to come back if they wish?
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 09.11.09 14:15 UTC
Are the moderators mind readers or admin for that matter do we always recognise members that have previously been banned or are we supposed to play guessing games aswell???
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 09.11.09 14:25 UTC
No Gill - au contraire!  But when it's pointed out to Admin that a "banned" member has reappeared ......
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 09.11.09 14:29 UTC
Every member that has been banned has had more than one complaint made against them. Do we  want these ignored from now on should we have no moderation do we want a free for all? Or do we accept that not everyone will agree when a member is banned but there needs to be someone somewhere that draws a line ?
- By ClaireyS Date 09.11.09 17:05 UTC

>Thats a shame as there are at least 5 banned members that have rejoined under other names.

im so dense, I havent recognised any !
- By Oldilocks [ir] Date 09.11.09 17:20 UTC

> Every member that has been banned has had more than one complaint made against them. Do we  want these ignored from now on should we have no moderation do we want a free for all?

Of course not, but if there is to be a "10th Anniversary Reunion" it would be lovely if everyone were invited back including the ones who have accepted their ban and not rejoined under another username. :)
- By Lea Date 09.11.09 17:28 UTC
One re signed in banned member at least has been 'outed' in front of Admin, but nothings been done about it.
So if they can blatently get away with it, then why cant the members that had been here for a long time and not been blatently rude like the latest person banned have a amnesty (am not talking about the trolls!!!!)
Lea :) :)
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 09.11.09 17:35 UTC
Well the decision has been made.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.11.09 18:53 UTC
The passionate debates (I for one enjoy debating as long as it remains civil and there's no name-calling!) did at least get more 'hits' for the site.
- By ceejay Date 09.11.09 19:12 UTC
Yes JG I was just composing something along those lines myself when I pressed the wrong button and screen closed up on me.  As for multiple personality posters Margot - I would never have guessed.  If you had a reunion Mark - what form would it take - news updates?  A good debate - but what would that be?   CD is the best dog forum - debate!!! :-)

> Every member that has been banned has had more than one complaint made against them

Complaining about someone is easy :) It's whether the complaint is justified that is important. What if there are more members who support the person than those who complain ??? We don't have a chance to voice our support as there is no public announcement when someone is banned or about to be banned :( Surely if a banned person has a lot of support from members their reinstatement should be considered ???? Or is that just a bit too democratic ? :)

And what are the odds on a "playground fight"
Ho Hum
No I will edit this as that was childish of me also. Sorry
But it seems everyone wants it both ways they want to complain about posters and want them banned when it suits them but if they happen to like the poster that someone else is having problems with then thats ok the other persons complaint shouldnt count.
edited again to say I have no idea who apart from MM has been banned recently so not commenting on any particular person.
- By dogs a babe Date 09.11.09 21:38 UTC
What is the criteria for banning someone?

Is it multiple complaints about a member posting on one topic OR is it multiple complaints over a period of time and range of topics?  Do the ignore lists get taken into consideration too?

I suppose I'm wondering if a ban may be as a result of a one off lapse in judgement or if they'd need to be a persistant offender...
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 09.11.09 21:39 UTC
Hit the nail on the head dogs a babe
multiple complaints over a period of time and ignore list
Oh Edited again ( seem to be doing that alot tonight) Short term bans have been used at times also
- By dogs a babe Date 09.11.09 21:46 UTC
Thank you - your edited bit was my next question!!

Finally - are they 'warned' first?  I know that the mods often post a plea for calm and consideration etc within the topic itself but wondered if the poster has some notice that a ban may follow unless they make some changes to their posting behaviour.
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 09.11.09 21:51 UTC
What can be read on the forums is far from being the full picture of any of these decisions and of course we confer with each other and the people concerned. Admin makes the final decision
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.11.09 22:35 UTC

>But it seems everyone wants it both ways they want to complain about posters and want them banned when it suits them

I don't actually think banning is the best thing to do if people are just irritating or whether someone doesn't agree with their posts and complains. That seems a bit like running to teacher, telling tales. If it was up to me (probably just as well it isn't, eh? ;-)) people would only be banned for promoting illegal activities, etc, not just being a pain in the neck.

Just my two penn'orth. :-) Feel free to ignore it!
- By satincollie (Moderator) Date 09.11.09 22:49 UTC
I dont make the rules JG and I dont get the benefit of ignoring  people otherwise how would I know if they need a quiet nudge in the right direction ;-)
- By HuskyGal Date 09.11.09 23:21 UTC
                                          *Looking increasingly worried*
Can I just say... I'm stood here with an arm full of gin bottles and cheesey footballs (oooh yes Faaaancy nibbles!)
In readiness for a party and now me cheesey balls look in danger of being swiped and used as Missiles!!!!

All joking aside it would appear a re-clarification of 'problem solving' and grievances is needed, to fight present fires but also prevent future?

Mark:
I would like to request a (in bold blue) thread for suggestions for ways to celebrate the 10th Anniversary :-)
Recents threads of DFS Crufts got me thinking about our home made champdogs badges and thought it would be a good idea maybe for you guys to source actual badges of an anniversary issue.... you never know with a fair few folk wearing them round and about it may even drum up new business? So people can wear them not just at Crufts but at shows as well?

Oh and can we have the chat room back 'for a limited time only' so we can running commentary on the Crufts TV. Mind you is it better in a thread? as the chat doesn't save and it was good returning from Crufts and reading what others had thought.... Hmmm ok this ones not one of my better suggestions!

But you see what I mean.... Lets get some suggestions going!
I want a party!!!! and stuff!!!!!! :-D
- By STARRYEYES Date 11.11.09 13:50 UTC
JUST LIKE YOU....LIV TO WANT TO PART..AAAAAY.... :)

Hell yeah......LOL
- By JeanSW Date 14.11.09 15:17 UTC

> Well the decision has been made.

I agree.  If people were banned, then they were on more than one persons ignore list.
- By Blue Date 14.11.09 18:18 UTC Edited 14.11.09 18:23 UTC
Ditto JeanSW,

To be honest I never notice people coming or going so never knew or know who is just now or has been banned BUT I have been a member here for a long long time now and I think moderation of the board is very relaxed compared to some forums, because of this I believe those banned must have deserved it.  Although using JG words I am not actually disagreeing or picking at her post , I just don't think Admin or the moderators ban people just because they are, "irritating or whether someone doesn't agree with their posts and complains"

This is probably nothing to do with anyone being banned but I have seen some threads take a "bullying" approach and it was happening quite often and threads being argued one way by a few then the next week contradicting what was said the weekend before, purely it would seem to battle it out for the sake of it and generally when the OP or subject what is way past debating. Disagreeing for the sake of it doesn't bring enjoyment to the board whatsoever for anyone.  Just spoiling it for everyone really.  Those that think they don't do it or have not seen it for me it really doesn't matter as it has been happening.

I don't do the " how wonderful" comments generally but I have to applaud the way the board is run. Yes there are times things will be missed but humans were not born with eyes on the back of their head :-)
- By JeanSW Date 14.11.09 21:58 UTC

> I have to applaud the way the board is run

Same here.
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 17.11.09 10:41 UTC
Can I just say here that over my many years here both as a member and as a Mod, I have seen people come and people go, some of their own volition some being a bit more *cough* forcibly ejected but...and this is the big one, the board carries on...new folks come in to replace the others.

No one is or has been banned for one simple mistake or for one comment on a thread that went awry :) The decision to remove a poster is rarely easy and the Mod and Admin team know that there will be the inevitable outcry from friends of the person but it is always for the greater good of the board in the long run

Melody - making a rare post nowadays :) Oh and yes, I was banned for a few days many years ago :) :)
