First time for us, we're taking the new puppy on the Saturday.

Daughter also doing the Junior handling but I couldn't warrant the entry fee for the older dog who would not be placed in the breed class.  Question is, how much allowance will be made handling a nearly 7 month old or do we try to borrow a dog?

im sure it depends on the judge but they "should" only judge the handling and if the dog is playing up as long as your daughter handles it and manages it then she should be ok.

HAve been trying to fathom out JH judging for just over a year now, since nephew started entering.  There does not seems to be any way to know  just what will happen.  Some judges follow the guidelines on the YKC pages and want the kids to handle as they would in the breed ring, and place sympathetic handling abouve "showmanship" of the handler, one jduge told us that he consistently looks for the handler wiht the naughtiest dog and places them highly if they are coping with the problems.  Others  compeltely disregard how the breed should be handled and look for a "one size fits all" approach with extremely "flashy" handling, (almost over handling?) with the dog being foot perfect - this is why we now have a pug who stacks!  Max has been showing his American Cocker pup in JH since he was 6 months old, and has been consistently highly placed with him  almost everytime out at both CH and Open shows, so from our experiecne I would probably say go with the pup your JH knows rather than the added stress of a strange dog at a big event.

We are going both days - bit of a sore subject as have had to enter each dog NFC on the days the other is showing. As I did my usual last minute online entering I was surprised to find that once the dog was entered in the breed they could not also be entered NFC.  Rang up and was told that I coudl do it if I opened a new page for each dog, but as the deadline was ticking down to noon it would be better for them to adjust the entries by phone - which cost an additional £5 per dog!  That made £20 for each NFC entry, as a further £1 was added to the £14 fee for the "after paper closing date" additional fee.

Anyway, if anyone is puzzled to see a Pug with the Yankees, or an Am. Cocker on toy day, that will be us!

What a very advanced child, handling a dog at only 6 months old! ;-)  :-D :-D

Rapport is a big thing (or should be with the JHs.
So go with what he knows best, the judge certainly should take that in to account.

I now have an awful mental picture of him crawling round the ring in a nappy!  Sorry for sloppy writing, Pup was 6 months, Max was 13yrs!
