My lab cross who will be 9 soon is a beautiful girl....never any bother with her at any time. Healthy as can be and apart from the odd stitch up (bitch fight...she didn't start it, but saw it finished :-) ) only needed the vet for her jabs and spay.
She has a soft lump a bit larger than a pea on her hind leg. Vet thought it was a fatty bump as it is soft and moves freely. It has never gotten any bigger. In the last month I've noticed a bony lump in her front leg. It feels like bone but is not on a joint and the other leg doesn't have one. Again it is pea sized. Over the last few weeks I "thought" I kept seeing a lump on her right side just before her ribcage, but every time I went to feel for a lump all I felt was loose skin. I had her at work with me today and one of the girls had a deep feel of her and found a really big lump...it would be as big as the palm of my hand in width. It is quite hard and slightly tucked into her ribs. The girl who found it also commented that she has lost weight and condition since the last time she was at work....which was about 3 weeks ago.
I am now quite concerned she has a tumor and was wondering with dogs....are they the same as people with organ placement....If it is then it would be about where her liver is I reckon....but I can't find any good diagrams of a dogs anatomy. I wanted one that sort of does the drawing from the tummy point of view, but can only find side view drawings which tells me the dog has the same but not good for showing where they fit in the body.
All being well she is going to the vets tomorrow to see what they think. I was mildly concerned about the hard front leg bump...but having that and finding the bigger one in her tummy is making me think she could well have cancer...:-(...
Just get her checked out as you will know either way if it is a fatty lump which most of the time it is or something more sinister. Better to know one way or the other then you can deal with it x
Thanks Justine but that is one I can find....I don't think the organs lie i a line like that in real life..:-) Just really wanted to know if everything is basically on the same side as ours...like liver on the right...stomach on the left etc...so I have an idea of what the lump might be attached to.
Hard to tell the size as it seems to be tucked up under the ribs. I hope it is a fatty lump and it can be removed easy enough....but because of where it is and how firm it is I am going to worry until the vet gives the word. Really glad right now that she has insurance....cuz I have a feeling whatever it is won't be cheap...
I know how worried you are feeling, and just wanted to send (((( HUGS ))))
Lots of us have had dogs with lumps, and I hope, like my girl, that your dogs is nothing sinister and you are going to come back and let us know how relieved that you're feeling. :-)
She saw the vet this afternoon. Vet wasn't overly worried. Said because it was a smooth mass and not nodular she reckons it is a fatty mass under a muscle layer..and that is why it is so firm. Blood tests all came back normal and she did a fine needle aspirate which I have to wait 5 days before any results.
