We bought 2 lovely cocker spaniel puppies the male was 8 weeks when we bought him from a breeder in Romford and the girl was 9 weeks from a breeder in Ashford. The boy 'Harry' is a lovely dog, very obedient, loving and placid. He learns quickly and most of the time as (he is only 15 weeks old so you still expect a few accidents) wees and poos in the garden. But 'Sally' is absolutely mad. She is always very excited and is quite a bit harder to train to sit etc. We can stand in the garden with them for ages saying "puddles, go puddles" and Harry does but Sally wont and will then go straight in side and wee in her bed. When we first had the puppies we used a crate but when we realised that Sally was weeing and often pooing in it, we decided to stop using it and just use a bed for them. We thought that this might help her to realise that she shouldn't do it in the sleeping area and i was feeling fed up with them having rolled in the excrement at night if she had done it in the crate. I felt i would rather clean it up off the tiled kitchen floor than having to wash all their bedding and shampoo the the puppies just about every day. Anyway she still wees in her bed. She will specifically go in and wee there so she is obviously confused and i dont know why. We have as far as i know done everything right and as you are supposed to and it certainly seems to have been ok for Harry. So if any one has any suggestions with this problem please let me know. Any advice would be appreciated.

What kind of soap powder are you using to wash the bedding, use biological and put some cider vinegar in the wash as well, this should take away all smells of the urine etc from the bedding, dont use disinfectant or bleach as some contain amnonia and this makes them wee in the same place. It is very hard trying to train 2 puppies at the same time especially when they are near each other in age, instead of saying go puddles, try saying "do a pee" then when they perform give a titbit and lots of praise, for the "other" say "be clean" and when they do this I give 2 titbits, they soon learn. Can I ask another question, were any of the puppies reared in kennels? im not saying that kennel reared pupppies are not good, but, if she was she will be used to doing the toilet anywhere she pleases, so just might be that bit harder to train not to wee or poo anywhere. Hope this helps. Another thing is she weeing a lot? have you had her vet checked she just might have a urine infection which will make her wee more often, you usually find if a puppy is excited they will wee anyway it just takes time to train them.

hi Irene,

Thanks for your reply. I will try the cider vinigar thing in the washing, but i must say that since i posted this question she doesnt do it that much anymore thank goodness, only if she is being told off then she tends to run straight to her bed and wee or if she is excited. But in the main she tends to do the business outside now.

Neither of our puppies were kennel reared they were both from breeders which bred in their homes.

Thanks again for you reply
